With the recent allowance of boating, Gross Reservoir has become a more frequent fishing destination for Front Range anglers. The lake provides fishing for trout, kokanee and tiger muskie. This lake is fast becoming known as a popular destination for muskie anglers. The lake is managed by Denver Water and no water contact sports are allowed. There is a day-use area with some sheltered picnic tables, hiking along the shore of Gross and camping in the Roosevelt National Forest along the western shoreline. No camping is allowed except in the national forest.

Getting there: Take Hwy 93 north from Golden to Hwy 72. Turn left (west) on Hwy 72 toward Pinecliffe to County Road 85. Follow County Road 85, which turns into western Gross Dam Road. It will take you to both the north and south access points. To reach the dam from Boulder, take Flagstaff Road west until it turns into eastern Gross Dam Road.
Fees: No fee
Boating: Non Motorized Hand-Launch. Boats must be single-hull construction, hand-propelled, and less than 18 feet long. Belly boats are not allowed.
Boating is allowed from Memorial Day through September only.
