Vintage Fishing Gear Collectors?
Post By: FishermanFrank      Posted: 11/5/2009 11:11:15 AM     Points: 135
I've developed a huge interest in collecting old fishing gear (Vintage and antique lures, tackle boxes, rods and reels.) My wife calls it an obsession, actually.
Do any other Fish Explorer members share this hobby? It would be good to trade stories and maybe gear.
I'm going to start trying to use some of the old items to fish with.
There's no way that I'm going to throw a 50 year old hand-made wood lure out into the weeds, though......
Maybe one of the old "beaters."

Frank, sometime you should go to the Freshwater Fishing Hall Of Fame in Hayward Wisconsin. They have all kinds of stuff like that!

Awesome!
Told the wife we're changing our vacation plans........
Where else could the family all stand together in the mouth of a giant pike?

I did that! If nothing else, the collection of old outboard motor they have is awesome. Not sure, but I think they had all kinds of old lures there too.

Two other cool places there. Mocassin Bar where one of the two largest Musky's mounts ( the Cal Johnson one) is at and Pastika's bait shop, a world famous Musky shop. The Louis Spray Musky Replica is at the Freshwater Hall of Fame.

i do some collecting on a limited scale. i have some older rods and reels that i have purchase over the years, and some hand me downs from my now deceased grandfather and father. it always amazes me how alot of the rods and reels came from local machine shops in various towns in the country way back when we actually made stuff in the usa. anyhow i do use these ocassionaly mostly just for$!*s and grins but also if i need smaller boat rods.

I need to take a trip out to Wisconson!
They practically invented ice fishing. (Not to mention American beer brewing.)

You need to head over to the Brass Armadillo in arvada. One of the booths there has quite a bit of OLD teens and twenties lures and such Several of the lures had price tags around 700.00. I have a few Orvis spinning reels and my grandfathers wicker creel along with some other misc stuff. Sure would hate to try to get parts for them !!! Some one would have to make them suppose.

I think you should turn those old lures into Christmas ornaments.

JimmyX2X2,
E-bay is a good place to see what similar rods and reels are going for.
If you search for "vintage fishing rods" or "vintage fishing reels" you'll find hundreds up for auction. If you know the brand and model, you can search directly.
Usually there are several THOUSAND vintage fishing items on e-bay at any one time.
I love the old lures. They have so much personality! Iespecially like the old Heddon and Southbend bass lures.
I have some old flyrods and cane poles that my dad and father-in-law have given me.
