I'm doing a little shopping for some new line and I am interested in giving Fireline a try. The Cabela's website has two colors, Smoke and Flame Green. Which would be better suited it CO? My guess would be green is easier to see by the fisherman, but also easier for the fish to see, so Smoke would be a better choice.
I usually use Vanish, but came across Seguar Florocarbon. Is this stuff worth the price?
My fishing buddy used to use fireline, but he doesn't anymore considering he never caught fish while he was using it. He had the smoke color so im not sure if it was just the line or the color affecting his fishing but as soon as he changed back to regular trilene monofilament he started catching more fish so i dont think fireline is very good.
Fireline is super strong, but in my short experience it reduces catch rate, like brookie said, add fluoro leader. If you decided to go with fireline, buy the smaller #test than your regular's.
I heard good things about seaguar, although I personally use P-Line 100% fluoro and P-line floroclear.
Flame green is made for crappie fishermen and other fishermen who watch their line for strikes rather than rely on feel. Smoke is the color you want for 99% of all applications, and it is less visible to the fish anyway.
Don't buy the crystal crap. Not only is it hardly invisible, it turns white upon UV exoposure, essentially making it glow all the way to the bait. Go with smoke or camo green.
I tryed the crystal stuff, felt like a steel cable going throught the guides, been using power pro with pline leader for a couple of seasons now, real happy with it. Made in Grand Junction Colorado , was bought by shimmano but still has 130 people employed in GJ, besides it is good stuff.....can buy it at wally world.

I don't use braid so no help there, but as far as fluorocarbon goes, p-line is every bit as good as as seaguar. Vanish in my honest opinion, sucks. Have never had any problems w/P-line fluoroclear or 100% fluoro for a leader. I do use Trilene XL or Suffix elite for main-line though- have heard very good things about p-line CXX(extra strong) as well. Hope this helps, good luck!

Trilene 100% Flourocarbon is great stuff for the leader! Size the leader to your fishing condition - in other words my leader might vary from 6 to 20 pound test with the same main superline depending on what I'm casting. CL
Not sure on other peoples opinions on this, but if you choose to tie leader directly to fireline I would recommend taking a lighter to the end for a second. I usually leave about a 1/2 inch tag and then burn it so it balls up to prevent slipping. But I really prefer to tie palomar knots onto a swivel with both lines. Just tie the leader in a palomar knot onto the swivel and then tie the fireline in a palomar know to the swivel and just pull the leader through. Seems a lot stronger to me personally.

I did get a spool of 8 lb. p-line fluoroclear that I spooled up as main-line that had horrible memory- but have had no problem using 4 or 6 lb. for leader. Have landed carp to 15 lbs. & steelhead to 11 lbs. or so using 6 lb. fluoroclear for leader. The CX 100% fluorocarbon rocks too.
