2nd Annual Eleven Mile Lure Ice Tournament
Post By: BCIII Posted: 10/22/2009 2:18:39 PM Points: 1782
All right folks...... we have the interest, we have the dates, we have the rules........ now we just need some ice. Here is the lay out. DATE: December 26th, 2009 2 man tournament. Partners WILL BE DRAWN at 6:30 AM which is also the check in time. Check in and Weigh in location will be Stoll Mt Campground. Do not forget your Park Pass. There are two seperate tournaments. One for Trout of any specie and One for Pike. Largest Combined LENGTH of your TWO BIGGEST FISH OF EACH SPECIE wins. Only two Fish per specie per team. Entry fee will be One Lure from each contestant. If you are fishing both events, you will need a total of 2 Lures per contestant. One lure for Pike, one for Trout. Official Drilling time will be 7:00 AM. The weigh in will end right at 3:00 pm which at that time prizes will be dispursed winners annouced. You are eligable to fish the entire lake as long as you sign in and weigh in by the required time. Due to some peoples travel time to Eleven Mile back home, please be on time for weigh in. Children will have their own tournament. There will be a single prize for the biggest trout and biggest Pike for kids. If there is only one specie caught, the second place finisher will win the other prize not selected by the first place finisher. FOOD HUT WILL BE IN PLACE: JED is going to be bringing his Food Hut and has volunteered to assist with the cooking. Last year we had several people bring some great food. It will be a volunteer potluck. If you are interested, feel free to bring whatever item you wish. There will be a demand for cookers, utensils/plasticware. If you are able to provide these items, that will be much appreciated. JED will be have the cook hut on the ICE fishing away himself. JED if there is a specific location you want to fish, just let us know. Please note that if you are not interested in the tournament you are still welcome to attend the potluck and just fish. If you do this and catch a big fish, please see me first so we can talk and work out a deal. Trash talking is allowed and recommended. Removing Hut stakes on other huts....... well, I guess..... as long as its just not mine.. :-) This is about having fun as I am sure we are all going to have. If you are interested, two things.... let us know what you can bring for the potluck and show for up for a great time. We are also talking about having a Pike Fry as well. As we all know..... Eleven Mile can produce some nasty weather conditions. Please dress accordingly cause I only have one jacket. (its my wifes.... she wont let me have my own). Safety is always a factor. Looking at Marks numbers last year, it was 13" this time of year. I reckon it will be deeper this year. You may call me at 719-310-3564 if you have any questions. Bobby. Good Luck and see ya on the Ice!!!! NOTE: Make sure to respond to this post.

If this is a partner draw, what happens with the people that want to fish but have no ice fishing gear?I have enough for 2 people.Maybe we should pair up accordingly?I dont know how you would do this but I thought I would put it out there.Either way im in! Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/22/2009 3:54:13 PM Points: 1782 I am going to assume that the % of people not having equipment is going to be minimal. For the % of people that dont have gear, It doesnt mean that they cant still fish with you, and share your gear as if you were partners. It just means on paper, they will score with somebody else. Partners do not have to fish together. I have my own little honey hole, but whoever I draw, may have his/hers. Reply by: Bullyhunter Posted: 10/22/2009 4:31:42 PM Points: 2927 Sounds good to me.Im in either way. I will probably fish Antero the weekend before if youre interested? Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/22/2009 4:45:24 PM Points: 1782 Hell ya I am in!!!!! was just talking to JED today about that. Call me when you go Bully. I will have the hut rip roarin ready to go!!!! Reply by: RiceBoy Posted: 10/22/2009 4:56:52 PM Points: 106 i really want to go, but i might have to work that day... T.T I'll try my hardest to get that day off... !!! and if i go i'll call you bobby. James. Reply by: Bassackwards Posted: 10/22/2009 5:08:59 PM Points: 1504 I'm interested. I would like to make a suggestion. Pair up people so that one person has a ice hut and heater with people who do not. I want to try and ice fish. I have a rod and some stuff, but have been a little hesitant about the large purchases. If i get hooked I will buy the big gear, but for now i'm just putting my toes in the water. Reply by: Bullyhunter Posted: 10/22/2009 6:39:50 PM Points: 2927 Oh man im pumped.I was just out in the shed doing inventory on all my jigs and other gear that need replaced.Full tank of gas in the auger.Only thing laking is a blade sharpening,i must have drilled 100+ holes last year.I look forward to hitting the ice with you fellas again this year. COME ON HARD WATER!!!!!!! Reply by: Raskal Posted: 10/22/2009 6:45:33 PM Points: 352 Just to clarify - if I come with another person will I be able to use that person as my partner ? Reply by: Bottom Bouncer Posted: 10/22/2009 6:54:52 PM Points: 633 I will try to make it. We have family from out of town then. So don't know for sure. Will check back when I know whats happening. Reply by: Mark403 Posted: 10/22/2009 6:56:43 PM Points: 4802 Looking forward to it! I assume the lures need to be new in original packaging, how about a price range? We will bring chips and dips Reply by: Danny Posted: 10/22/2009 7:04:28 PM Points: 540 Raskal has the same question as me. I think it should be a free for all and then that way the guys with extra stuff can help out the newbies and take them under there wing a lil bit. It would suck if two newbies without gear were paired up. If it is teams it would be nice to get your choise of partners, no Mark you can't be mine I'm spoken for. Either way I'm in. If a newbie were to win that would be a great way to start! Reply by: crazypickles Posted: 10/22/2009 7:05:16 PM Points: 1137 trash talking is allowed and recomended, i love it! count me in! i will be there Reply by: crazypickles Posted: 10/22/2009 7:11:11 PM Points: 1137 this will be my first season ice fishing and i will be there for sure, ill bring some hot dogs, drinks, buns and what not, and i do not have an ice auger or tent all i will have is a rod and reel and can get some bait and what not Reply by: Jumbo Posted: 10/22/2009 7:48:08 PM Points: 543 Raskal and Danny, I think you can choose your own "fishing" partner, but the "lure" partner will be drawn randomly. Correct me if I'm wrong. So I guess you can trash talk to your fishing partner, if he/she is not your lure partner. I'm interested but can not commit at this moment. I'll bring some donuts, and funny brownies, just kidding :p. I'm with crazypickles, I have no experience and I don't have the gears. Reply by: crazypickles Posted: 10/22/2009 8:04:40 PM Points: 1137 we should have another get together befor then as well, like a start of the season first ice at antero Reply by: kevtater Posted: 10/22/2009 8:26:48 PM Points: 294 I didn't make it last year for some reason, I don't remember why because I was on the ice about 50 days last season... Anyway, count me in this year, I'll probably bring someone but we don't have to fish together, drawing a partner is fine. That way I'll meet someone too and maybe learn something new. I'll keep an eye on his post and I'll bring whatever is still needed at the end. Reply by: 450impala Posted: 10/22/2009 9:15:00 PM Points: 71 I really want to go I have that week off and have not been ice fishing in a couple years as far as gear I have a sled a gas auger pole and lures. I do not have a hut but it isonly one day, I will be more then willing to share the auger though. And partner not real big deal to me how every guys decide I will probably be coming with one. Will try to bring some food but does it have to be premade or can we cook it there? Reply by: JED Posted: 10/23/2009 3:48:45 AM Points: 4191 Me and Bobby were talking about the partner thing, I guess it does make sense to pair up accordinly. So everyone pick your partner, or if you need a partner, start looking. I will have an gas auger on hand as well as a couple other people. No problems there. I will also be in the cooking hut making sure all has hot coffee and some good food. There will be some additional donated prizes, probably first fish and such... Anyone that came to the one last year(Yep, this is BCIII 2nd year helping put on this great event) will tell you how much fun this will be..... As we get closer we will talk about what food and drinks are needed...... And do bring your children, they will have lots of fun as well. Not sure if my 15 yr old daughter wil join us, as fishing is slowly becoming boring to her:(, but I am going to try and get her there...... Well I am heading to the mile for a weekend of pike hunting, so I shall see you when I get back Johnny H Wimberly Reply by: fish-on-9er Posted: 10/23/2009 7:59:57 AM Points: 333 Starting to get excited.Sound like fun Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/23/2009 9:07:10 AM Points: 1782 Here is the explanation on partners....... We understood that some people will not have gear and are coming with others that do. Thats cool. You can still fish with them and share equipment like you were going to begin with. But some people wont be coming with partners. Thats the reason that the drawing is strictly for weigh in purposes, so everybody gets hooked up with a partner to participate in the contest. Plus it was just something different. Like JED said we can have it where everybody picks their partner and thats who you weigh in with..... But I just have a feeling some people are going to show with nobody, and we just didnt want anybody to be left hung out to dry by themselves. We will listen to suggestions and go with the majority vote. Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/23/2009 9:22:30 AM Points: 1782 Also the price range for Lures should bew no less then $4.00 per lure. And no..... Pautsky's Salmon eggs do not count. LOL Reply by: Danny Posted: 10/23/2009 10:25:04 AM Points: 540 Well I'm up for cooking again , just make sure we drag all the stuff a lil further so I can in some water deeper than 4 ft,lol. I will try to make up in time to set up but I have a problem showing up on time for anything, just ask Johnny, lol. Well I think the tournament should be a singles not partners because I would hate for anyone who draws me cause I always get skunked at the lure tournaments! Like I said I'm in either way. For any new guys who don't have gear and are holding back from coming I would say speak up because someone always has something to share on here. I have 1 maybe 2 rods that someone can use for the day. Reply by: Wattzz Posted: 10/23/2009 10:31:41 AM Points: 977 This rookie is in!!!got little gear for the ice(hand me down from the 70s)cant remember last time I went,Huts on sale at bass pro, ANYBODY thats want to help me get up to date gear I'll be back to read posts!!!!!!!!!! Reply by: Raskal Posted: 10/23/2009 11:23:20 AM Points: 352 I'm in --- will most likely have a partner with me and both of us do have extra rods (and lures) we can share. I'll monitor the posts and will fill in whats needed for the 'picnic'. Reply by: AZXplant Posted: 10/23/2009 11:50:37 AM Points: 536 Been a while since I've logged in - good to see a big get together is underway! I'm staying in CO for the holidays this year and the craziness at work should be over by then. Hopefully a buddy and I can make it up - and if not maybe just me. He has a shelter and hopefully I'll have a powered auger by then. I'll keep watching this thread as the day gets closer. I hope everyone's been enjoying the fall fishing - my boat's been parked since mid-September. Looking forward to hard water! Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/23/2009 11:58:32 AM Points: 1782 I just got off of the phone with Jim Collins owner of the 11 Mile General Store. He is going to be donating some items to go towards the kids tournament as he did last year. For those that may not like to travel, he does have 2 cabins available for rent. If you want to stay an extra day or whatever. You need to call his Jim's father at 748-2227. He has one cabin that can sleep 7-8 for $90 and one for $75 that can sleep 3 tight. The general store will be closed during the tournament time, but the cabins will be available. If you get a chance, thank him for the donations. Hes a pretty good guy. I always try to promote his store over the marina. Danny..... I agree with you that we have to push you out a little farther this year. You were so shallow last year you could have just reached your hand down and grabbed any fish swimming by. Or crawdads for that matter. AZXplant, Didnt you win the first fish prize last year. If I recall correctly it was a pike. I know my wife had the second with a trout and she couldnt believe you beat her out. That was funny. Reply by: Mark403 Posted: 10/23/2009 12:11:47 PM Points: 4802 I am up in the air about the partner idea. At first, I did not like the idea because my wife and I are usually partners. Then, I thought if we were seperated then I guess I would let her and her partner use our hut and just hope the partner I got had a hut if it is cold and windy and we would have two chances at winning??? At this point, I agree maybe we should keep it singles and as was already said, plenty of people have extra gear and would be willing to help any singles. But it is up to you, we will be there either way. Reply by: AZXplant Posted: 10/23/2009 12:24:05 PM Points: 536 I did win first pike last year and now have a tip up. Looking forward to using it this year. Reply by: BITE ME Posted: 10/23/2009 12:40:18 PM Points: 2867 I don't know the 1St thing about hard clear water other then in most cases it will suport you from getting all wet, Will you team up people that have a auger ? or would I just sit on the ice and use my super powers and burn a hole ? count me in I'll try naything once Jim Reply by: Mark403 Posted: 10/23/2009 12:42:22 PM Points: 4802 Cool Jim! There will be plenty of people with augers, including your buddy Mark! At last years ice gatherings I have let several people borrow our auger and other equipment. Reply by: jam Posted: 10/23/2009 1:15:41 PM Points: 161 Good Sam and I will be there. We do have extra items to lend out. And our auger is available for those that may need it. We will bring, paper plates, bowls, napkins, cups (hot & cold), forks, knives, spoons and trash bags. And lures of course. Jodi Hall Reply by: Danny Posted: 10/23/2009 2:17:30 PM Points: 540 I don't know what I can bring yet. Hopefully I can kick in more than just the cooking but work has been really slow and things are tight for me but I always make some room in the budget for some "anit-freeze",lol. Bite Me Feel free to ask Mark about anything outdorr related, his knowledge isn't just limited to ducks and bears. If your old rickity joints freeze up out there I'll toss you in my slede and pull you back to your car. Reply by: BITE ME Posted: 10/23/2009 3:06:47 PM Points: 2867 Danny that just may happen and I'm glade you have it covered ! So mark do fish migrate ? is a frog's ass water tight ? do bears$!* in the woods ? why does the barometer effect fish ? I have a hunger for knowledge and I'm told you that are the OLD wise one. Reply by: BITE ME Posted: 10/23/2009 3:21:37 PM Points: 2867 So we think we have knowledge ? If a rooster is a top a barn and lays an egg which way will it roll off the roof east or west ? If papa bull and momma bull see baby bull stuck in a fence which one will come to his rescue ? Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/23/2009 3:44:50 PM Points: 1782 Again with the partners....... Its just for weigh in purposes. You can fish with whoever, and use whatever equipment is available. Here is a good example. Mark and JED want to fish together in the same hut. Say Mark has no auger and plans on using JED'S and thats why he wants to fish with him. Great..... In the meantime, Mark and I get drawn to be partners for the weigh in. JED and Mark are fishing in Suckers Cove or wherever, I want to fish Stoll MT. When we weigh in, Mark and I add up the inches of fish we have for whichever specie, win the tournament and collect our winnings. He got to use the equipment he needed. Fish with who he wanted to, and win. It will work fine. Everybody will fish with who they want, all the equipment will be available, and nobody has to be left out without a partner. And the best thing...... Its something different. Reply by: Mark403 Posted: 10/23/2009 3:57:36 PM Points: 4802 BCIII - You are right, it is something different! Good job! Let's do it! Please leave Danny's name out of the hat, he always gets skunked and only fishes in 3' - 4' of water! BITE ME - So not to clutter this thread, I will answer your questions in the FXR+ forum when I get home from work. Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/23/2009 4:04:40 PM Points: 1782 HHHMMMMMMM....... Did help a lot last year with the cook hut......... However being skunked each Ice Tourney.......... We will just say that whoever ends up picking up Danny as a partner will get an automatic 5 inches added on to their own score. That will make his 5 inch yellow perch turn in to a 10 in yellow perch. Reply by: Bassackwards Posted: 10/23/2009 4:04:44 PM Points: 1504 If anybody has an extra ice hut that they would part with for a reasonable price, this would make my coming to this event a reality. I can borrow or buy in the meantime a heater and I have gear. Shelter is the most important thing to me. I do not have the money for a new setup. Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/23/2009 4:07:21 PM Points: 1782 Bassackwards, I would check Craigslist out. There are some available here in the Springs. Perhaps you could possibly trade something of value to help compensate the money. Worth a shot. Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/23/2009 4:08:32 PM Points: 1782 I forgot...... Perch arent part of the contest. Reply by: 450impala Posted: 10/23/2009 4:40:32 PM Points: 71 as far as donations for the kids personally I think it should be mandatory for everyone to buy one extra lure to donate to them. Just to help them get a headstart on their friends, but that is just me. Reply by: HeavyC Posted: 10/23/2009 4:51:51 PM Points: 2846 Couple for sale right now on coloradofisherman.com, buy & sell sections HC Out! Reply by: Good Sam Posted: 10/23/2009 4:55:28 PM Points: 923 We will be bringing an extra shelter that someone can use. It is a 2 person cube type shelter. I will also bring the auger and extra poles. Oh yeah, I forgot, I have a hand auger for first-timers to use, tradition says you have to drill your first hole by hand. Just kidding, or maybe not. Steve Reply by: Danny Posted: 10/23/2009 7:33:47 PM Points: 540 I don't need no stinking handicap! I'm just gonna shadow Bobby all day. His honey hole is going to get worked, lol. Reply by: Danny Posted: 10/23/2009 7:37:04 PM Points: 540 Just a lil FYI. Never mess with your bartender or waiter and NEVER EVER mess with the cook. Reply by: Bottom Bouncer Posted: 10/23/2009 8:25:22 PM Points: 633 Hey Bite Me, If a rooster lays an egg you better call the news. Roosters don't lay eggs. LOL. But in Your world any think is possible right. Reply by: bamjbam Posted: 10/23/2009 11:08:36 PM Points: 138 Howdy yall. This is my first post on this site. I have a couple of questions. For the ice lure contest,if I bring a buddy does he have to be a member of FxR? Also how good would a regular tent work on the ice, that's all I have for a shelter but I have an old one I could cut a hole in the floor for fishing. Are we going to be limited to using lures for the contest or can we use bait? Also I've seen the mile mentioned a few times. Is that between spinny and elevenmile? I'm planning on going to antero, spinny and eleven mile tues and weds of next week. Are there any sweet spots any1 could put me on? Colorado native but I have never fished south of Denver so I could use some learning. I am totally in for the contest. Take care all. Bamjbam Reply by: kevtater Posted: 10/24/2009 1:23:45 AM Points: 294 Bamjbam, I'm not one of the organizers but i doubt your buddy has to be a member. I don't see why a regular tent wouldn't work, just like an ice hut, keep some weight in it at Elevenmile! Bait fishing is ok, they say lure tournament because you donate a lure (or two, whatever the specific rules are) for an entry fee and then the lures are used as prizes at the end. The Mile is short for Elevenmile. I'd start a new post for next week's sweet spots, so as not to clutter this post. Reply by: Mark403 Posted: 10/26/2009 7:47:34 AM Points: 4802 bamjbam - Welcome to the site. I am not sure if all participants have to be members but why not get your buddy to sign up? It's free. As far as a regular tent. I guess it could work as long as you have a way to anchor it to the ice and re-inforce the sides. Our ice hut is the Clam Base camp which is very much like a regular tent but stronger support poles and anchor spots. The wind can get fierce at the mile! Reply by: BCIII Posted: 10/26/2009 8:54:56 AM Points: 1782 Danny, My wifes a bartender so I could agree with that. On the other hand.... The whole lake of 11 Mile is my honey hole. In all seriousness, I hope you and I get drawn to be partners......... It will just save the me the extra work of having to apologize to you for taking your lure. I believe the trash talking has officially begun!!!!! The boat inspectors told me they would be there until you can't launch boats anymore, sounds a little vague I know but encouraging for you boat guys. I hope to show you the Pike bite on the underwater camera...it is a sight to see. Come on Ice!!!! Reply by: BCIII Posted: 11/10/2009 1:17:00 PM Points: 1782 It seems that people want to pick their own partnerts so that works for me. If you dont have a partner I guess you will have to find one on this post or find one the day of the tourney. ..... I am going to create a new post on an updated tourney listing. If possible, if people can respond to who their partner is or wish to be I will post the teams as of now. As of now, I have not heard of any teams identified. JED - Send me an email at rchauvin@terminix.com and we can finalize some things. December is around the corner. The really cool thing is that my dad is going and this will be his first time on the ice. Bill Reply by: BCIII Posted: 11/27/2009 8:31:31 AM Points: 1782 I am going crazy..... Working on Black Friday while friends are ice fishing... this sucks!!!! I am going to post an update with the teams that have been announced so far. We have a lot of people interested, but not a lot of people committing to partners. Make sure you have your partner identified so the check in can be smooth. Looking forward to it. Reply by: bill92042 Posted: 11/27/2009 9:52:29 AM Points: 2987 BCIII I will be fishing with my dad. He has a log in on the site, but I don't know it. Bill Reply by: thisbudsforU Posted: 11/27/2009 5:20:37 PM Points: 1005 I heard dynomite does not work as well i fishing as other times. but i still might catch a few. so i am in. I noticed billl made a separate category for kids. I guess he didn't like my 10 year old son beating him in the pike contest last year. (he still talks about the huge 23" pike he caught last year, I don't have the hart to tell him 23" is not huge.) I will probably bring a large pot of elk chili Reply by: BCIII Posted: 11/27/2009 10:07:09 PM Points: 1782 Thisbud He caught that pike on salmon eggs if I remember. That was awesome. And 23 inches is a nice pike for anybody. I was happy to see him win! Love seeing the young ones getting out. Mine are looking forward to it. Can't wait for the elk chili...sounds great. Reply by: bassboy753 Posted: 11/29/2009 8:22:54 AM Points: 193 What is the age limit for "children"? Cuz I would like to enter the adult tourney! How do I enter? Reply by: JED Posted: 11/29/2009 8:52:55 AM Points: 4191 bassboy, To enter you just let us know your coming and bring your new lures to enter... You can join in on the adult side, not sure age matters, we just want to make sure that kids fishing have something to look forward to Johnny JED Reply by: waterwolf Posted: 12/6/2009 1:37:40 AM Points: 56 Mention was made of a campground as the checkin location. Will a campground be open for RV use? I really want to participate, but I'll have to work out all the details. I live in Loveland and thats got to be a 4 hour drive, so staying overnight is really the best deal. Since I'm getting into this gig so late, I suppose all the bunks are taken at the marina?????? Reply by: zekers Posted: 12/6/2009 6:38:22 AM Points: 26 Just got done with hunting season and started getting into the ice fishing mindset when I saw this post. What a great thing you guys are doing! Count me in, although I don't have a partner as of yet. Who do I contact to find out what food to bring? Reply by: BCIII Posted: 12/6/2009 8:37:53 AM Points: 1782 All right folks... Its about that time. We ice at the mile and it is thickening up every day. Monday I will start a new post with listed teams and food. As expected we have several individuals looking for partners. You can find one at the tourney or try to recruit on this post. Question came u on age of kids entering adult tourney. There is no age limit but 2 things apply... Must have a partner and you won't be eligable to qualify for kids tourney. Just bring your lures and a partner. We are having a cook hut but are in need of cooers and propane. If you can help in this area that would be great. This is going to be a great time so don't miss out. Yes you can come out for fun. That's what makes FXR so great. I am heading to eleven mile this coming weekend to test the ice and post a better report on conditions. Come along if ya want.this thread is getting a little long so I will post a new thread titled "update to 11 mile lure tourney". Can't wait!!!! Reply by: bassboy753 Posted: 12/6/2009 8:56:51 AM Points: 193 I'm gonna be there. I'm not sure if my family will want to stay for the potluck, but if we do I'll bring something. Reply by: par845 Posted: 12/6/2009 10:41:38 AM Points: 140 Team Hawkeye (par845 & Nmrlyskunked). We will bring the adult beverages and soda again this year. I will also have my two nephews (12 & 14). Reply by: cantfindum Posted: 12/6/2009 12:50:49 PM Points: 805 I would like to fish with my dad, sign us up as TEAM RAMSEY please BC. And as far as the entrance fee of a lure, we just give you say a kastmaster for example and that's it? On the new updated post can we get rules as far as what to keep, lures to use, price limit on the lures for the entrance fee. This will be my first ice fishing tourney and first fish explorer event and I'm excited for both, can't wait to meet you all! Cheers Aaron Ramsey Reply by: bassboy753 Posted: 12/6/2009 2:51:15 PM Points: 193 I'll probably team up with walleyeslayer, don't count on that yet though Back to top...
