common courtesy
Post By: kevmac0911 Posted: 7/14/2010 8:22:31 PM Points: 3
I've been shore fishing at Gross for 25yrs. Its my favorite place to go. Since boating has been allowed I hope one day to get on the water. I don't have a problem with boating but some of the boaters show no common courtesy in the last 4 times I've been up at least 3-4 people have crossed my lines. I have even let them know that I had lines in the water. I've even had my lines cut. I'm glad that boating is allowed just remember there are still some of us fishing on shore. Please try and go around our lines or ask us where are lines are located. Thanks for reading

I don't go up there on weekends or go to the inlet anymore because its amature hour these days. Too crowded for my taste. I go up on weekdays and fish for tigers every now and then. Reply by: Kittredge Kid Posted: 7/23/2010 10:56:51 AM Points: 32 I have a question. I am fairly new to Gross and hear people talking about the 'inlet' but on the map it looks as if there may be (3?) which is "the inlet"? I wouldn't mind trying it next week if I knew which one to go to. We typically fish the southern coves, is it down there or is it up by the northern side? Any info. would help. Thanks, Kittredge Kid Reply by: alwayzskunkd Posted: 7/23/2010 11:25:59 AM Points: 887 Some people just don't care about others and that is sad.... Are people paddling by and snagging your lines? If so that's pretty rude. When I fish I stay out of the way of the shore guys, your limited as it is. Reply by: Full House Posted: 7/24/2010 1:03:00 AM Points: 171 Just like the Big Mac gets with rude boaters coming by and snagging you! All you have to do is one time, throw out a big $@@ treble hook that is weighted, hit the boat, and they will never return. It does sound crass and mean, but only do this if you've warned them, they ignore or taunt you, or they just don't care. They will care when your weighted treble hook cracks the fiberglass! I've a boat, which I take out, but I comply with the standadrs and don't cross shore lines or give out to much of a wake. Good luck! Respect others, but don't put up with that which you shouldn't have to deal with! They have the whole lake to fish shore line is limited Reply by: FISHRANGLER Posted: 7/24/2010 9:11:44 AM Points: 3972 You guys that want to throw things at boaters are wrong to think it's okay to do so...and your not the brightest light on the chandelier. If you think that is going to help your case. You will get the ticket. Most wont support you and your efforts to hurt or damage someone or there property. And if they have kids on board, watch out! I have had my stuff eaten up and I just made them pay for it. I have came across shore fishermn a lot at Aurora that hide in the trees and the back of coves you don't see them in time. I always apolagze, But if some idiot decided to throw a rock at me I would have my way with them.. Use you head people it's just fishing line and a hook you may loose. Why loose a eye! I know that the boaters don't want to go through your line, because it's a hassel to get it out of your prop and could damage it. Just tell them about the Regulations and ask that they give you a little room next time through. Reply by: Bassackwards Posted: 7/24/2010 9:31:45 AM Points: 1516 This post was about Gross not boaters in general. There are NO MOTORS allowed on Gross. I wish the original OP would chime back in. Reply by: EOrf Posted: 7/24/2010 9:38:59 AM Points: 1740 FISHRANGLER..See you have respect for shore fisherman and thats great cuz so many boaters that fish the P Res DONT and my friend he will ask nicely and tell them that hes fishing there and look dude you have a boat and so that means pretty much the whole lake most of the time they have the courtesy to leave..Once in a while they tell him f off and thats when he will pick up a rock Some Boaters have respect some dont thats all Reply by: MSU_Angler Posted: 7/24/2010 10:25:23 AM Points: 419 Two wrongs don't make a right. Retaliating against a boater in that way is going to end up with a result (probably legal) far worse than getting your lines crossed, so I doubt it's worth it. As much as it stinks, it's better left for the authorities to deal with. Reply by: Wonkeyeyed Posted: 7/24/2010 1:21:50 PM Points: 625 I agree....it's always best not to behave like others. However I have found that if you politely drop your pants and and offer a full moon gesture in good taste along with a couple choice F words..it seems to be effective.....CAUTION ! you must have good running legs to remedy your situation with this tactic..as you may get your fanny wooped by a very large boater fella person. - W ) Reply by: Montana Man Posted: 7/26/2010 10:11:24 PM Points: 11 100% correct. I've been fishing at Gross since 1989 and I love that lake. Sometimes I take my canoe with me but I sure miss the days without the boats. The days when you might see one person at the inlet! But it's still a clean lake. It reminds me of the water back in Montana. Not to mention if you went the extra mile, it's a 5th degree felony. yep, it's so worth it to lose your rights to vote or own a firearm because you felt disrespected by a shorefisherman or viceversa. I can see that jailhouse conversation. Reply by: FISHRANGLER Posted: 7/27/2010 7:22:15 PM Points: 3972 I just despooled 125 yds of 10lbs floro. never used the reel .I replace it with Crystal... Would you like to have it? I never said it was not a big deal to loose line, plus gear, but I can fish the shore just the same as you in my boat. You don't get 150yds=450ft to fish eiher. You get 150ft/feet 50 yds.. You want for some reason to be mad at all boaters, but just because were in a boat doesn't make us all bad guys here.If everyone gives alittle because there is limited space. There should not be a problem.. Don't sit there like a deer in headlights waiting for the boat to eat your stuff up. Heres a idea, "reel it in"... Trust me, you don't want to hear what I have been through this year with other boaters messing with my stuff and my space...I have thought about it and I was pissed, but I got over it. I'm jsut saying get over it and move on.. And really you can have the fishing line,if you want it.. Reply by: Thefunkyfish Posted: 7/27/2010 9:03:42 PM Points: 40 I have no clue what the hell is going on this post is about Gross and no Moterized boats are alowed there pluss that lake is deep that any paddle boat that comes by is not going to matter I have casted out 40' to see my line straight down by me. Reply by: FISHRANGLER Posted: 7/27/2010 9:07:22 PM Points: 3972 My point was in general.. It really doens't matter what lake it was or is..Or what kinda boat it is.. Im just saying don't throw rocks and reel your stuff in if a boat is coming your way. They may not know the rules.Just like a lot of shore fishermen don't know them also. Back to top...
