It's Your River Too!
by: Barry Reynolds , Colorado8/25/2009
The South Platte Carp Slam is over for another year and while this great event has helped elevate awareness of the possabilities this river posses to become a viable fishery located in the heart of a major metropolitan area there is still much more work to be done! Water quality, habitat improvement, proper drainage and wetlands need to be established to curb the flow of pollution into the river. The South Platte through the Urban corridor has tremendous potential not just as a fishery but as a playground for all outdoor enthusiast. Everybody needs to get involved to make this work! Kayakers, rafters, anglers, and people who walk ,run, and ride their bikes along the many bike paths that criss-cross and run along the rivers edge can and should be actively involved in restoring the river and cleaning it up before its to late! Here again we have come to a point in time where we need to put our differences aside and ban together to continue the crusade to build a better river and one that we can be proud of! As projects become available and volunteers are needed to help continue with the clean up and stream improvements I will pass the information along in hopes others will get more actively involved in the restoration of the South Platte River! In the meantime if you use or frequent the river make sure to pack some trash out with you next time and leave the river a little better than the way you found it. Make sure you check out Tim's podcast on thursday as he wraps up the Carp Slam and continues to give you details in how everbody can get involved.

I had a good time saturday watching all of the action and listening to everybody at the after party. There was lots of information up for grabs. I went out monday and caught my first carp on a fly rod. After talking to Todd Fehr, the project coordinator for the Platte river through Denver, this will be a good thing. We should all get involved. How nice would it be to have a top notch trout fishing river 10-15 minutes from your house? Keep us informed and I will do anything I can to help.

WFN will have a 3 minute video from the Carp Slam posted at www.wfn.tv by 8am 8/26/09. Check under MyWFN Rockies. You can also see this clip if you get WFN HD which is ch# 394 on Dish Networks. It will air Mon Aug 31st at 7pm and 11pm Eastern (Assuming that is 5pm and 9pm Mountain). Tim Emery does a great job explaining what the Slam is all about and how TU is making headway on the South Platte. An extended video with more angling footage should be forthcoming, hopefully here on fishexplorer.com. Thanks. tim glomb
