It was just another beautiful day here in Florida. For the first time in years we didn't have to share the launch at the Buzzard Beach ramp with other tournaments. We took off at safe light and most of the nineteen boats went through the dead river to lakes Harris and Little Lake Harris, while the rest went to Eustis and Griffin. There was another bass tournament out of Lake Dora so we did end up sharing the waters with a lot of other boats.
The bite started out slow for some of us while others had no problem catching a quick limit. But most of those limits were small and had to be culled up over the rest of the day. Out of the nineteen teams there were fourteen limits and two bags of four. The total fish caught for the tournament was seventy nine, weighing in for a total of 177 pounds. The weights were up a bit from last years tournament around the same time of year. Big fish was a solid 8.5 pound bass caught in thick hydrilla. The overall wining weight was 19.02 pounds caught by Rob Williams team, a mere pound more than second but over four pounds more than third place. The winning team and the third place team were about the only ones to lock through to Lake Griffin. Rob makes his own baits and that seemed to help him immensely.
Next month our club tournament will be on the St Johns River out of the Astor public ramp. The October tournament last year produced one of the smallest total weights for the club. Hopefully this years total will show some improvement. Until then you all go out and catch em.
