While covering ICAST this year I ran into a company called T&D Materials Manufacturing LLC also known as Pur Tungsten who make a line of tungsten weights. Niki Porcellini Project Manager was very helpful and knowledgeable about the product line. When talking about fishing weights, smaller is always better but you still need to get to the bottom. That’s the beauty of tungsten it’s heavier and smaller along with the fact that they are environmentally friendly. The main draw back to them is they cost a lot more than lead. Once you get pass this issue you’ll find they hang up less and get you into spots you normally couldn’t reach. So in the long run it all washes out and puts you in position to catch that big fish you’ve been hunting! Another complaint is, if the weights aren’t deburred properly in the manufacturing process it will cut your line. Niki points out that this is where a good quality control program is essential. T&D has a long history, 20 years to be exact of precision manufacturing in a bunch of other fields including High Tech Aero Space and Military applications of tungsten. If you get a chance check out these weights they’re high quality and at a great price point. Hi my name is Danny Barker I'm a NorCal tranplant living in North Central FL Ocala to be exact. I cut my teeth fishing the Cailf Delta, Clear Lake and Folsom Lake for 40 years, some of the best bass fishing waters in the country. My personal best 14.63 lb LM was caught and released on Folsom Lake which ranks in the top 5 fish ever caught on the lake. I've been in FL for 5 years now and love it here, the bass fishing here is outstanding as well. My main focus will be targeting big fish with an emphasis on catch and release and resource management. I want to help all the guys and gals out there looking to catch their personal best bass. This area is loaded with huge fish and I'm looking forward to helping each of us in our pursuit of big bass.
