Lake Monroe tournament yields 10.18 pounder

Our clubs tournament this month was out of Lake Monroe Park in Debary. The morning was cool and the wind was down so 15 of the 19 boats headed out to Lake Monroe. But as the day progressed so did the wind, many anglers returned to the ramp wetter than they wanted. The storms that were predicted stayed away, making fishing comfortable and keeping the boat traffic down.
Now to the fishing results, out of the 19 boats only 11 had the limit of five bass. The sizes were also down, with two limits weighing in at under seven pounds. The winners were Stan and Cindy Hunsinger at 15.18 pounds. Their total was helped out a lot by Stans 10.18 pound lunker (see picture below), the other four fish weighed in at a mere five pounds. Congrats Stan and Cindy, the big fish is also the big fish so far for the year. Last years total for this tournament was only sixty fish with seventy one being caught this year.
Fishing the river was a little difficult because the water level was so high, scattering the fish. Flipping didn't produce the fish we normally catch, I think they were back a little further than normal. Plus there was a lot of vegetation that accumulated in the pads making the cover really thick. The wind didn't help, picking up as the day went on. It was hard to find areas that were protected from the wind.
Our next tournament is in the Harris Chain so that ten pounder may be at risk. There are plenty of lunkers in that chain and who knows maybe someone will bring one to the weigh in. Until then good fishing to everybody.
