These old bones
by: Michael Guiles 8/21/2012
Now that I am getting older I have found these old bones are starting to act up. Arthritis somewhere different almost every time I go and do something out of the ordinary. Not that fishing is out of the ordinary. A few years ago just a couple of the larger joints, shoulders and knees, were the only ones acting up. Now a new ache leaps out at me almost every time I go fishing. This time is the thumb joints, last month it was my forefinger. My fishing partner has just started having pain in his elbow and biceps over the past couple of months. I can't guess what will be next. Aleve to the rescue, I just take a couple of the magic pill and then I am good till the next outbreak.

This is something you young guys have to look forward to when you get over that magic 50 age. For some people it never comes, your the lucky ones, but for most of us eventually the pain will be there. Treat the pain with a little anti-inflammatory medication and things will be manageable. A lot of people I see out on the water wear braces and wraps to help their joints. Eating right will also help in the development of good joints along with proper exercise and weight control. Start early and you may not have to deal with the pain like a lot of us older guys.

You're singing my song. Wade fished all day Saturday. On my feet about eight hours. When my bladder called on me to make my very early morning run (standard OG issue), my legs cried out NO, my bladder won. 'Tis a joy having a young mind in a not so young body.

I dont even want to think about it. My Daughter and Son-in-law swear by their MSM pills.

I'm in the OG category as well, but instead of complaining about those aches and pains, I have chosen to make each and every one of them as a reminder of the hills I climbed, the rivers I fished, the fields I walked...all of them precious memories that time cannot erase. The recollection of these and so many more experiences may not dull the pain, but they do warm my heart and for awhile, I forget all about being old. Ski

You go, skinman! I have the usual OG aches and pains but I have found the Glucosamine and Chondroitin pills help a lot. Along with not eating garbage (stuff that they try to pass off as food) and taking quality supplements have given me another couple of decades, I hope!
