Save Bristol Bay, Alaska. Tonight!
by: Tim Emery , Colorado10/27/2011
No, I haven’t been to Alaska yet but it is on my bucket list. My wife says for my 40th birthday she is sending me to Bristol Bay. I only have 2 years to wait. I guess I can wait that long to fish one of the most beautiful and wild places in the world. Yes, I have seen the movie “Red Gold” about Alaska’s Bristol Bay and it is amazing.
Tonight join me and other supporters of this amazing place, see the movie, eat some salmon and hang out with old friends.

I have had a few calls from FishExplorer.com guys who are coming tonight. I hope we take up half the room. Bring your friends, families, and fishing buddies. Come say hi and tell me what’s been going on. You know I love fishing stories.
Here are the details:

SAVE BRISTOL BAY ROAD SHOW

The Save Bristol Bay Road Show is coming to Denver to raise awareness and build support for protecting Bristol Bay, Alaska, which is threatened by the proposed Pebble gold and copper mine. The mine, potentially three times as large as the largest mine in North America, puts thousands of fishing jobs at risk along with a Native way of life that has existed for centuries. The real gold in Bristol Bay is the world’s largest sockeye salmon fishery, a sustainable resource that returns year after year.

What: Free event with screening of “Red Gold,” salmon bites prepared by Chef Justin Brunson of Wild Catch, plus a panel discussion, and cool gear giveaway (including a fly rod and reel set from Orvis worth more than $500).

When: Thursday, October 27, 7 p.m. TONIGHT!

Where: Oriental Theater, 4334 West 44th Ave., Denver

Who: Featured speakers Melanie Brown, an Alaska Native and commercial fisherwoman Ben Blakey, of family-run, seafood processor Snopac Products Matt Aboussie a Boulder-based commercial fishermen and salmon wholesaler and Kirk Deeter, a Denver-based fishing guide and writer will share the importance of Bristol Bay as an economic engine, source of jobs, and resource for food.

Make sure you RSVP. This may sell out.

This is a very important issue to all fisherman. And FishExplorer.com members will be out in full force.

See you tonight!
Thanks,
Tim

Would like to attend... real important to maintain this fishery!! Farming salmon is nuts. On another note do a search for Goldenfin cutthroat trout and see what the intro of non native species can do! If anyone can give an old lady a ride from Lakewood it would be much appreciated...

Tim, Thanks for the plug! Looking forward to seeing you tonight - and hopefully meeting a bunch of the FishExplorer gang! It's going to be a great event. See you all at the Oriental! We'll be giving away quite a few door prizes too...

Last night was a great show. Good turn out from the FxR crowd. We ate some good salmon and had some good beer. Keep your eyes on the Pebble Mine issue. We need to keep on this and let our senators and congressmen know what is going on. Thanks for coming out and supporting it. Tim
