About Us

The concept of Fish Explorer started a few years ago when I got my first boat and couldn't find a list of lakes in the state where powerboats were allowed. I was also interested in finding a map that charted which species were in each lake. Furthermore, I wanted to find current conditions on the lakes so I knew that when we got there we could get the boat in, have an idea what the fish might be doing, and whether or not we could camp there.

With the advent of Google Maps the idea took on its own life. This dynamic - and I think revolutionary - tool gave us the possibility to develop all the features we envisioned. Prior to this time, creating a map of this magnitude would have taken hordes of development and lots of money.

We are ordinary fishermen that enjoy picking up on any given day and heading out for some time on the water. We have spent several thousands of hours developing the tools and features, researching information, talking with officials, organizing our network of Field Editors and Skippers, and otherwise creating this labor of love that will hopefully help you become a more informed angler.

This has developed into a powerful information tool that I hope inspires everyone to find what is common between us. Whether you toss hardware or flies, whether you keep a few or release them all, it's all about fun and respecting our fisheries. Please have fun out there and keep in mind that we all have an impact on the waters we fish.
