Lake John Fishing Report 8/28/11

Bill Willcox Lake John Resort www.lakejohnresort.com.
Although State Parks and Wildlife have begun putting fish back into Lake John, the lake is not yet open to public fishing. The trout need a chance to disperse and get acclimated. It should be open in time for the Labor Day weekend, but the exact date hasn't been announced just yet. So far, 1,200 brood fish have been released, trout whose average weight was 4.2 pounds, with a few hitting the 7 lb. mark. Some sub-catchables were also introduced into John in a variety of species, including some Snake River Cutts. More fish will enter Lake John this week, including a healthy number of catchables and some more large brooders. The water level is on the rise, although the north boat ramp will be the only usable one for a while. It's my understanding that once Lake John is open to public fishing, all previous limits, rules, laws and regulations will apply, with the possibility of some additional restrictions.
