Williams Fork boat ramp closure

The last day for trailered boat launch facilities at Williams Fork Reservoir will be Thursday, Aug. 16. Due to drought conditions, reservoir levels have been dropping quickly and the boat ramps will no longer reach the water. Consequently, the boat ramp will be closed for the rest of 2012.

Beginning Friday, Aug. 17, only small car-top hand-launched craft, such as canoes, bellyboats, kayaks and other smaller vessels will be able to access the reservoir. No motorized craft or vessels will be allowed in the reservoir because of their potential to harbor aquatic nuisance species, such as zebra and quagga mussels.

“This has been a challenging year for reservoir operators all across Colorado,” said Neil Sperandeo, manager of recreation for Denver Water. “We wish we were able to keep the boat ramp open longer, but unfortunately, the drought conditions have prevented that from happening. Anglers can still enjoy the reservoir with hand-launched boats.”
