CPW press release
AURORA, Colo. Join Cherry Creek State Park in celebrating Lake Appreciation Day on Saturday, July 21 for a day of fun in the sun! Sign-up for one of a number of cool volunteer projects from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A free lunch will be provided. Then, stay for an afternoon of excitement. There will be boat rides, canoe rides, archery and educational programs from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will also be a kids fishing clinic, a fly fishing clinic and a prize raffle.

All volunteers will receive free admission, but individuals and groups volunteering must register in advance by calling Karen Ebersole at 303-690-1166, ext. 6566. Everyone should dress appropriately for the mornings volunteer activities - closed-toed shoes, gloves, clothes for working, sun block, bug spray and a water bottle.

Projects will include shoreline clean-up (saving fish, birds, and wildlife by removing dangerous fishing line, and other items that may harm or kill wildlife) Russian olive removal (which has become a noxious weed and takes three times the water of our native species) and the removal of Salt Cedar, another noxious weed at Cherry Creek.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife was created by the merger of Colorado State Parks and the Colorado Division of Wildlife, two nationally recognized leaders in conservation, outdoor recreation and wildlife management. Colorado Parks and Wildlife manages 42 state parks, all of Colorado's wildlife, more than 300 state wildlife areas and a host of recreational programs.
