Coming from the west to Grand Mesa area, the Mesa Lakes grouping is the first encounter of the 100 plus fishable waters on the mesa. It is approximately 25 miles from I-70. Easy access is only one of the reason for the areas popularity. Other appealing points include developed campgrounds, picnic sites, a lodge offering a restaurant, fuel, fishing tackle, and cabins.
Getting there: From Mesa go south on Hwy 65 13.7 miles to assess road on right just past Jumbo Reservoir. Follow assess road 0.3 miles, past Sunset Lake (on right) and Beaver Lake (on left), to the end of road and the lake. Alternatively, take second right past Jumbo Reservoir to Mesa Lakes Lodge (permission to park suggested if not a guest of the lodge). Lake can be accessed with a short hike past Beaver Lake to the end of the walking trail, or walking on the access road to the lake at the end of the road..
