Met with BCIII and Hype and fished the NW part of the lake, started before sunrise and had a few bites from the get go but no sure hook ups. After an hour or so, I managed to get a nice Rainbow on a small pink jig tipped with a wax worm. I had a few other takers throughout the day and most of them managed to get away. Hype(Kevin and Josh) and his brother also had many good fish but unfortunately the fish were lost at the hole or their jigs broke off. I think BCIII did manage to get a nice cutthroat trout and he also lost many other fish. It was a real pleasure hooking up with both BCIII and Hype, and I am definitely looking forward to doing this again. The weather was sunny and really nice and the wind did not start picking up until 2:30pm or so.
BCIII, thanks for the Hut, the tubes and all your help. Hype, let me know about the power auger and hope the fish tastes good.
Nice fish, BassTrout. I have never fished Elevenmile Reservoir before but hope to at least once this ice fishing season. What was the water depth that you were fishing? Did you tip all of your jigs with wax worms?

me and a buddy were at howbert point yesterday. i hooked 4 decent trout on tubes. it seemed pretty slow. we did not see hardly any fish. how about you guys. i will fish witchers cove next weekend. that is my favorite spot.

We tried almost everything out of the tackle box for them trout, and jigged many different color tubes, Kastmasters, and used many different size jigs tipped and un-tipped with either meal, wax or garden worms. I got many multiple bites and would sometimes hook up to only one or lose both of them. I did lose many right at the hole, one of the guys actually broke the jig's hook right at the hole, and I hear it was a really good sized fish.
I was jigging a big tube and a big old PIKE came to inspect it, that fish was at least 24 inches and it looked like a big underwater snake. That was a first time for me and I am glad I did not hook it up because I was using 4 lbs line.
Hey Sunny Delite, I won't be able to go back to the mile until maybe a weekend in the beginning of February. And I did not have a chance to go to your secret fish hole, but I am sure it had a lot of pressure for the day.
I moved three times and water depth was from about 10 feet to about 15. Tha water clarity got murkier as I got deeper and the ice thickness is still at about 30 inches.

All right....so here's the skinny. Weather was very nice until the win monster came to town. Water at stoll was very murky. Not sure why as it was crystal clear before. More snowpacked ice I believe let less light in. Fish were around just few and far between. I believe our group was to deep at 12-15 row but another party stole my normal spot. LOL. I had a decent 2 1/2 lb cutthroat ill post a picture Monday when I get to work. Lost two others but didnt see much else. It was the hardest day I ever worked for 1 fish in my life! Fun day. If anybody has the chance to ever fish with BassTrout or Hype..... do it. They are great guys and it was pleasure to meet both of you. You will always be able to tell when Hype or his brother have a fish on!!! The lake erupts in a massive cheer. Hope you guys had fun. Next time we will Catch more.
Reconfisher....... I saw your truck out there........ how did you do?

We did good...if the red quickfish 6 shack was in your normal spot that was me lol...we got out there 4 min before you guys. Had my personal best day at 11 mile for trout with 4 15-17 inchers caught by me and my buddy caught 1 trout and a a lil hammer handle pike on a small tube!! it was alot of fun for his 1st time ice fishing and his first ever pike! Had something huge on the pole that screamed line out then stopped...and i couldnt get it to budge til it snapped the line...must of been a monster pike cuz ive never had anything like that happen before ice fishing. My auger pull string broke early on so i was happy to actually find a nice spot i could sit in all day since the auger was inop! I will be out there Tuesday hopefully! Oh i was using 1 inch pink powerbait tubes tipped with a mealie...did try one of the bigger tubes n looked down the hole to see about a 2-3lbr with it halfway in its mouth pulled up and no dice!
yea we saw tons of fish cruising around too...its fun to watch..yea Ranger loves it out there ice fishing...licks all the slime off ur hands when ya catch a fish..so no need for a towel hahaha...wish i could be out there n fish with ya guys on sat but i have 24 hr duty saturday.....so catch em all for me!
We need to be careful when saying "get together at the mile" on this site. Now that I know what recon fishes in, I can drill holes around his hut when he's in my hot spot. LOL. Bite might be slow for awhile. Last night cleaning my cutthroat, he was loaded with scuds. Loaded. Timed bites are the key and I believe small is better than big for rainbows right now. Just not as aggressive. John how a week can change things.
haha....yea the fish i fillet up were full of scud aswell...i bounced lil tube jig off the bottom and outta nowhere came a fish that inhaled it so thats how i ended up fishing yesterday...only 3-4in off the bottom...and ya dont want another fine from the state eh
i was in the red eskimo quickflip. we moved around alot at stoll and we hardly seen any fish were you guys on the right side or the left side of the point. the left side is kind of the cove, that's were we were. there was a frabill black hut and another black hut i think. maybe we were to deep. has any body tried witchers?
I will take a skunked day too rather than watching the games!LOL B-hunter haven't given it any tought to the tourney but will definitely look into it. I haven't done a tourney in my whole life, do you just sign up and pray to the fishing Gods?
ahaha yea bc and basstrout. thanks again had a great day out on the day. just seeing them fish made it worth it. basstrout and bc both had nice fish. and yea me and my brother do get a lil excited when we fish. i saw bc cuz i bought his boat from him.. went to sportsman to stock up on some more tubes and jigs. tried to go buy a hut or a auger. and they had none. if neone is selling either let me know or where i can get one. im planning to hit the lake also on sat. bullyhunter i already told bc. might have to smoke that trout basstrout gave me yumm.

So here was my lone fish for the day. Prettiest cutthroat I have ever caught. His gill slash was quite intense. Should have had at least 3 more in my hands as well. We will have to get them next time. Bullyhunter, are you planning on riding up with your family or do you want to all hop in one rig? Dont matter to me.
Recon, you should get in it. I wish I would have known that was you out there, I would have come and said hello...... as I was removing your anchors on your hut. LOL
ALSO SOME GOOD NEWS...... AFTER SOME MAJOR DNA TESTING IT WAS FOUND THAT THIS CUTTHROAT IS A 2ND COUSIN TO THE FAMOUS "GREY BEARD"!!!! As I caught him, the fish actually told me that if I let him go, he would tell me where to find him......... I agreed. He told me he is still lurking in the Stoll Mountain area..... I thanked him, and had him for supper that evening. Lesson here.......... Never make a deal with a hungry fisherman.
Nice fish and funny story Bobby! I did made a deal with a big 10.4 lbs Largie out in the Castaic Lagoon a few years back, the fish promised me I would catch her again and she would possibly reward me with a record size prize, lol....................
I am still waiting and will still have to go back to look for her!
Hype, hope you get that boat running and we can hook up again, I don't mind driving to Pueblo this coming summer.
basstrout. i dont mind the company. its a nice. boat. i already talk to my old boss bout possibly adding a paint job. b4 the season. so im excited. bottom black and red flake added to the already ton of flake it has. >=]
Greybeard is is trouble! I have been on call for work for 2 weeks and I get off call Friday morning! I will be spending the whole weekend in the hills and I wont come home until I have nailed that big sob! He has been playing games with me and Bobby for over a month now. He always makes a guest appearance and then he's gone never to be seen again.
He hit my tube jig last time but only the skirt, Not enough to get the hookset, but enough to send my blood pressure through the roof with excitement! My hands and legs were shaking with adrenaline for about an hour after our last encounter. Thas fish has been around for awhile and theres a reason why! Just like the 6x7 bull we saw last year.Pulled the greatest fish hook manuver on us before we knew what happened. Followed him to the bottom of a large draw only to look back up hill and see him go over the top!
Look forward to tearing em up with you this weekend BC!
Hey guys, I would like to also take a shot at big old "Gray Beard" if you all don't mind...........I will give him a break for now but I will surely be set on a mission come the second weekend of February! I believe the mile has a lot of potential for big fish..............we shall see.
Remember: "If you bait it right.............he will come"
Guys, please let me know how you do and go get those monsters out of the mile. I would say fishing is a good addiction to have, you still spend the money(sometimes way more than expected) but at least nobody is after you for doing it!
Except the wifey of course, sometimes...............
ahhh i got a something up my sleeve for the guy to and it never lets us down to get a fish on the hook. lol. i just forgot it last time. but not this time. and BC its my DAD hes my irish pot of gold lol! rubb his belly and its on lol what you got on that!
Hype..... I've a got a 2 1/2 lb cutthroat last week that was just warming up my line........ LOL........ don't need a pot of luck.... just need my hut, my heater, my family secret, and my auger....... everything else just falls into place. Good times by all. Probably bringing a grill y'all want to bring burgers or dogs. Kind o a community grill. John and hype... bringing my dog.

ahh man looks like im missing out on the bbq out there this weekend!! im going to head up to the mile today...just got off 24hr duty so im going to try the afternoon bite til about n hr tor half hr after dark..will post any success!...and BC now i have to keep my eye on ya when im out there lol
All i can say is WOW!!!! didnt see another fish til about 410pm...and it must have been ole grey beard...cuz man was this fish thick...filled up half of my hole as it swam by....fishing heated up at 415-5pm...got 4 fish in 2 1/2 hrs i was there....first was the 18" 2.6lbs..then 20" 2.14lbs then 19 1/2 4.2lbs and finally 19 in 3.3lbs...just fished with one pole as i had a tip up out...went to get the tip up out of the water for quits..came back to the shack to see the pole going nuts..n landed the last bow...was an awesome time fishing..used lil 1in pink powerbait tube...caught some by eye n others by strike...fish were really agressive today which was good!! pics below...and BC..i marked ur spot out there for ya lol
BassTrout, grey beard is a super thick cutthroat. He took up 2 10" holes and about half of another so Im going to say at least a 24"+ fish. Im guessing 7-9# fish easy! Hes got shoulders like an NFL linebacker! You will know you have spotted him when your heart rate escalates faster and harder than you have ever experienced before in your life! He has stuck to the north side of the lake.
Recon, dude you da man! Thanks for making Saturday seem so far away! LOL! I hope to get a few like that on Saturday. If I can keep with my streak (knock on wood) we should do well. I have some go to baits that have put nice fish on the ice all season. I guess BC also has some mystery baits we are going to try. Trout masters is coming fast you guys should join up especially wiht the success you have been having. Their website was down and now they dont have the entry info but you can find it on Colorado State parks webpage.

Wow B-hunter, just by reading about how big "grey beard" is, it's making my heartbeat faster. I am going to have to look for him too! I don't know about the tourney because of all the crowds, I just like to fish for fun, even if sometimes I get the big old "skunkola"
yea man. i might go again. lol. all i need now is a ice hut. it will get here tomorrow =] im excited. i even got a new pole for the milee i need to hook me up some fish. and once i get the boat out in the lake ill be glad to take you out wit me. basstrout

From up north and was thinking of hitting the MILE in the second week of Feb. Haven't been to this lake ever, May have to go mid-week. Any hints on spots to hit or is the whole lake a pot of gold. Don't have a gas auger so we don't move around too much.

$@%@%@$%#@$^%&%&&^&$&I((*(^%$#%#$@%!!!!!! I am so freak'n jealous! I love the mile and really want to tap that ice for the first time. Them some nice fish guys! Hearing about those log pike inspecting big tubes gets my blood pumping. I am on a house cleaning mission this weekend however so the ice will STILL have to wait. I've got the kids next weekend but I think finding open water is my only option since watching a 2 and 4 1/2 year old so they don't fall into holes, knock over huts, etc. seems really difficult. I have to find a baby sitter here in the Springs...

10-4 BassTrout! I felt guilty dragging my family out to the Mile on my birthday (Nov. 2) because I knew that temps were already getting colder than my wife's comfort zone. The kids didn't mind but I was still made to feel guilty about "dragging everyone out there." The 6 lb/ 30" pike made up for it, however! Ha, ha. Sometimes its tough to win. :)
