Heading to eleven mile tomorrow any advice?

Post By: odele      Posted: 9/13/2017 5:46:09 PM     Points: 0
Heading to eleven mile tomorrow and gonna be mostly fishing from shore. I do have a small inflatable boat to use as well. Can anyone give me any updates on the lake and what areas are fishing the best? And any tips on what fishing are biting?

Thanks everyone!

11 Mile has been really rough on me for the last 2 yrs and I have fished it for 40 years. I will be hitting it again soon and hitting it right up until ice-on which is almost always Thanksgiving. Right now I would get some large lazer sharp snell hooks and put a live grasshopper about 7 ft behind a half full bubble. Better when the grasshopper sinks typically. There is a fishing store right on the corner of hw 24 and 21st st as you head west from I-25. Fountain Creek runs right behind it. Walk in back of the store to find some huge slow grasshoppers. Now you know everything...

Very difficult to fish without a boat. Be Very careful in your inflatable, the wind comes up fast up there and it kills people every year.

Best advice, fish the weeds toward the west end.

I'd think about going tomorrow...are you in the springs?

I think all fish eat grasshoppers but if I want to harvest fish for dinner-the grasshopper is great from Sept thru ice on. Put your line thru the small end of the bubble and tie it to the small end of a swivel--making sure you have a small enough swivel to jam it into the large end of the bubble(50-60%full of water). This will keep the whole setup secure as well as providing a bit of a hookset when the fish takes it while you are sipping a beer. Have your drag set nice and light. Run the hook between the eyes all the way thru the tail and then pull the head up over the eyelet so it stays stretched out and doesn't bunch around the bend when you cast. Most of the time I put the hopper underwater and pinch firmly to get rid of air--allowing hopper to sink on the first cast. Best with the wind at your back. Just leave it alone as it bounces in the wind.

Old Army trick for hoppers . . .two people stretch a wool army blanket between them and walk a weedy field . . .hoppers get caught on wool.

In case of lack of real grasshoppers there are hoppers flies. They also catching fish. Verified that last weekend.
