Lake: Big Creek Lake(upper)
Canoeing & fishing at Upper Big Creek

Went up to Lower and Upper Big Creek Lakes this weekend. It was generally rainy, but when the sun came out the mosquitoes did too. There is a lot of beetle killed trees up that way! We canoed across the first lake and camped near the inlet. I caught 2 rainbows near the inlet on an orange scud. Nobody else was having luck. We then went to the upper lake.

It is possible to portage a canoe up to the upper lake. If you take a canoe on the left side of the stream, carry it for a hundred yards or so and put it back in the stream, push/paddle it further until you get to a small logjam. You can pull the canoe across the logjam and then you're essentially at the second lake. Two small places to get the canoe out of the water is it. On the upper lake, the fishing was somewhat slow, but I caught a nice 16 inch cuttbow, again off of the orange scud. He was a fighter and really fat. I threw him in for another day. It was a great weekend.
