Carter Lake Construction Update

From Kara Lamb of the Bureau of Reclamation:

Now that we are into the New Year, it's time for another update on what is going on at Carter Lake.

First, as you all know, work continues at the south dam on the secondary outlet. Construction is on schedule. While it is underway, we are still maintaining a water level elevation restriction around 5657 feet. Once work is completed, we will start filling Carter Lake. We are anticipating to start filling in early March.

While the water restriction is in place and water levels are low, Larimer County Department of Natural Resources has hired Connell Resources to make several improvements to the marina area near the north dam. These improvements were part of the Resource and Recreation Management Plans that underwent public review in 2006 and 2007.

Part of the improvement work will include stockpiling unused fill, i.e. soil and gravel materials, in the north end of the existing, unreclaimed quarry that is located east of the Big Thompson Campground and southeast of the north dam. These stockpiles will be permanent. As a result of suggestions from the public during our planning process, we will re-contour and re-vegetate the stockpiles so they look more "natural" and produce less dust.

I don't mean to be morbid, but are there any discussions about resuming the search for the little boy that drown when his idiot father was too busy drinking in the boat to watch him? I don't think they ever recovered his body, and it seems with the water level low, the search could be easier.

They did conduct a search while the water was down, here are a couple links to the story published the end of December.
