I went to Prospect Lake in the Springs this evening to see if the panfish were bitting yet. Got there at about 6:45PM, and fished with a small piece of nightcrawler 4 feet under a bobber. Was fishing in about 5~10ft of water, got many bites from small panfish, and managed to land 2 in about an hour. A ton of trout started feeding on the surface at about 7:30, if I had a fly pole I would of smashed them.... but I still managed to land one 11in rainbow on a piece of worm. Also caught a 10in shad on the same set up. All fish were released.
I'm assuming you were on the the southern side where it's rocky? I checked it out the day before you, but there were too many people on the south end. The East side was pretty shallow and I didn't see anyone catching fish along there.
How did it go last night? Any luck? Do you usually fish on the west side during the summer for panfish? Would be nice to know, still looking to get my 6 year old son involved in catching some easy/small fish.
Hey guys, you are allowed to use boats on Prospect Lake, and many people use float tubes. I went out agian this afternoon and caught a lot of small pan fish. I started out fly fishing will a dry fly and caught a couple bluegill before the wind picked up. Then I switched to a piece of nightcrawler 4ft under a bobber and caught about five more bluegill Then I went to a small wolly bugger tipped with a piece of nightcrawler on my fly pole and had a lot of luck. In total caught about 15 panfish, all but one being bluegills. I think this one in the picture is a crappie, can anyone confirm?
went out today caught three trout throw one back. was fishing on the south shore by the parking lot. was using orange power bait no bobber. where were you fishing at to catch the panfish i was hoping to catch some but never did.
