Fish: Largemouth Bass
Decent Day at the Pond
Post By: ZZZ      Posted: 10/18/2012 8:07:37 PM     Points: 1124
Took my 11 yr old nephew to a local pond to try and get into some bass today. For the first hour or so I tried a variety of plastics (Senkos, Baby Brush hogs, Flukes) while he decided on a 3 inch grub. While I was trying to get into some bigger bass, he was knockin down good numbers of 6-10 inch bass so I decided to join him.

Tied on the grub and the first two fish I caught were a couple of very respectable gills, which are pretty rare at this particular pond. I got into a few smaller bass and then lost a bigger fish. After some more smaller bass I hooked into a nice fish in the seventeen to eighteen inch range and shortly after that a nice fifteen incher.

The key today was downsizing and going slow. Didn't get a single hit on the larger plastics but as soon as I switched to the grub the fish started hitting. I typically have better luck in the fall with larger baits but today they wanted them small and slow.

Tight Lines...zzz

Ive seen dead bluegill along the shores quite often this time of year over there. There sure are some big ones still swimming though.
