Lake: Jackson Lake
Fish Kill?
Post By: Vanish      Posted: 10/2/2012 7:45:10 AM     Points: 907
I've seen the news article about North Sterling, but I wondered if anything was recorded at Jackson. I haven't seen anything except photos of it really low. Did it have a bad fish kill or is it just tough fishing because you have to walk so far just to get to the lake?

It was like this at jackson last year aswell. There are fish in there you just have to hike and wade out to get them. Try going around to the north shore and walk out to around 3 fow and cast from there. Got into them like that last fall. Good luck. My best bait there is four inch creekchubs.

Saw a bunch of dead fish last time I was there. Lake was a puddle... As shallow as it is, any fish left will be lucky to survive the winter.. Too many Carp in there too..

Sad news i dont think its going to make it through winter either which is horrible cause it was sone of the best spring walleye fishing i've had in a long time at Jackson. Prey for a harsh winter we need it,

can you use the boat ramp to drive next to the water?

i do not think they allow anything on the surface ..( land ) only on foot...because somebody would get stuck way out there ..and then you got cars.all over the dry lake ..stuck..and left there. if they did everyone would be out there on a.t.v.'s haveing a hay day....

swung by there today ,,,saw some dead carp...some dead shad..a palegan that look like he was very down on his luck...so thin and had hard time trying to fly ..only flew inches off water about 50ft. then called it quits... found a very nice fishing pole...been in the water a while...but i'll try to clean it up ....lake does not look too bad..not like sterling.???..if what's left lives?? ...and does not die under the ice.....perhaps come spring ....this may be the only place to go. only time will tell..

Jackson will start refilling in the next 2-5 weeks thus the fish will likely over winter just fine.
