Stolen Gear
Post By: JoDo19      Posted: 9/12/2012 10:08:15 PM     Points: 7
Hey all probably a long shot but just wanted to let you know in case you see some fly gear around at garage sales, pawn shops, flea market etc. All of my fly gear except my two reels were stolen from me last night out of my garage. It includes my simms headwater waders, simms Freestone boots, Orvis 9' 5wt access rod (brand new only used 3 times), St. Croix 8'6" 3wt imperial rod, and my vest with every fly I own and all the tippet, leader, etc. Pretty bummed as I am fairly new to the sport and have spent quite a bit of money to get to where I am at and now it was all taken from me. Not to mention I had a 5 day tip planned starting Saturday to Grey reef/Miracle mile with my dad, uncles, and cousins and now will most likely have to cancel. They also were able to steal my wallet and all my credit cards etc.

Damm that sucks!

I got a 7pc pack rod and reel you can have. Its no St. Croix or a Ross reel. But it works. 8ft 4/5 line weight. I dont have the patience to fly fish.Pretty much brand new.

Do you have any pictures of the gear? I don't have any idea about fly stuff, but if I knew what it looked like I would let you know if I saw it.

Hey guys thanks in advance for all your thoughts and help. I wil let you know about the 7pc rod and I really appreciate the offer. @Kayake I have posted some links to the rods etc below. I think what ticks me off the most is all the little stuff 100-s and 100s of flies, leader, tippet, vest, waders, etc. It took years and years to collect all that stuff. @skiman I am in Westminster off of

I am going to go out on a limb here and offer to let you borrow my st.croix 8'6" rod and lamson 1.5 reel. The tippet and lures are up to you. Its 4/5 weight rod reel combo. That way you can go on your trip. Family is too important to miss out.

i ask that you only return it in the same condition I let you borrow it.

I am in Westminster too. I live on the north shore of Standley Lake. I work nights sleep days so I'll check back this afternoon.

Depending on what size you are I might have waders as well.

Sorry to hear that. Theives SUCK!!! Hopefully you didn't leave your garage door open, as that is an invitation to scumbags for a crime of opportunity (not saying you did, just pointing that out for all to see).

Hopefuly you are able to take up Bassackwards on his offer and make it out on your trip. Grey's Reef is an awesome spot!

I've got a 5 or a 6wt that you could borrow for your trip. Both are Cabelas beaters that cast nicely and are pretty rough looking already (no worries about abuse). tblomblom@yahoo.com Let me know on here if you send a message. I've got a ton of buggers/crayfish/flies that you could grab a dozen or so of also. And an old vest you could have, the zippers suck but it is better than nothing.

I'll keep an eye out on craigslist around Boulder/Westminster. That totally sucks, I had a $900 bike taken from a garage a few years back...

JoDo19, you did file a police report, right?
 Reply by: Mr.Pink      Posted: 9/13/2012 2:03:06 PM     Points: 132
Be SURE to file a report. It may seem like a waste of time, but it isn't. Also, notify all of the pawn shops in your area. Pawn shops have no interest in buying stolen stuff, and they'll usually call the cops if they think someone is trying to sell them some. If the stuff was never reported as stolen, you've got a problem.

A lot of people on this site spend a lot of time online...some of us will watch Craigslist and other sites for your stuff. I wouldn't completely give up hope. They have to sell them somewhere...

I had a similar experience in college. Of course, being a student, I had no means to replace anything. There sure isn't any shortage of dickheads out there.

On top of notifying pawn shops, I'd get in touch with local fishing shops and let them know to watch out for it. A thief may try and sell them the stuff as well.

File a police report for sure. With the quality of stuff you had, it may be worth an insurance claim.

All Thanks times a million I really appreciate all of your help and willingness to loan me your stuff. I just spoke with my uncle and he as a extra waders, and a rod so I am all set there. I will work on purchasing the necessary things only to still get me out on the water. I did file a police report and I did also file a insurance claim as some tools were taken as well. On another note my bro runs a pawn shop so he has sent out a broadcast message to all the pawn shops letting them know to keep there eyes and ears open. Once again I really appreciate everyone looking out for me it makes the site all worth it. I will keep you all updated on if any of my stuff is found and how our trip is as well.

Good thought on the police report, never know when an officer with a fresh report might stop someone that really doesnt look like the fly fishing type.

JoDo,
I don't know if you are renting, or own your home, but in addition to a police report, your homeowner's insurance might cover at least a part of your loss. It wouldn't hurt to contact your agent...just sayin'

Really might be worth it. I had 4 mountain bikes worth almost 20 grand stolen 3 years ago in foco. Because our apartment required renters insurance I was able to recover about 10 of it, 2 bikes. I feel your pain brother, I lost a custom ride that was hand airbrushed and had my name embroidered in the seat and will never get that back. Hopefully you can still enjoy your trip and the thief will get a hook in the eye or sac.

I hope a double nymph rig gets him in the sac and eye at the same time!

Awesome to see so many good people offering to help this guy.
Thieves suck!
IFF let's hope you are wrong about the police profiling someone who doesn't "look" like a fly fisherman...
What does a fly fisherman look like anyway?
I keep between 4and 6 poles in my jeep at all times, most of the time I don't look like a fisherman??? So should the police pull me over because I don't look like a fisherman and someone just had thier gear stolen?

Jodo hopefully this thread is proof that there are still genuinely good people out there still.
