Good thing for that fish that guy caught it. If I would have caught it it would have went straight into the garbage can or pit toilet. I have no tolerance whatsoever for crap species of fish being let go in to fishing waters meant for game fish. Since they found one, are they going to Rotenone the whole place just to be sure they're gone?

I know this happens at other lakes (Chatfield last year, IIRC), but it ticks me off more at this lake because of the way it's managed. This is abuse of resources regardless of the intent.

These will not survive the winter here, they are a vegetarian version of pirahna, although they will resort to eating fish if need be, more often than not these outgrow their aquariums and unfortunately the owners will release them into neighboring waters instead of destroying them.

LOL,

Guys... that's a pacu, not a piranha. A piranha can't hide it's teeth. A pacu has a lot smaller teeth that don't really show. However, I call the pacu the vegetarian piranha.
In South America, the natives of the Amazon and Orinoco basin find them a good eating fish. Yum yum... along with the discus and angelfish.

This story is so far off it isn't even news worthy.
Its a Pacu no big deal People do release them but its not going to need to have the lake killed off. I'm more pissed off they didn't do a story about the dogs in the water.

I totally agree with FISHRANGLER. It seems to me that no one follows the rules. There is a leash law here. I have landed many fish on many occasion, only to be ruined by some inconsiderate person letting their dog splash right though my hole.

pacu's eat anything,not just veggies.ive had plenty of them.even alone in tank or in packs they will eat anything smaller,weak or injured.tough little guys.had one eat a frog 1/2 his size
cool fish but invasive species sucks.coming from back east i can attest to the snakeheads growing in numbers

Man lighten up on the dogs ! Earlier this year at Chatty around 11 pm in May , I was shore fishing for eyes . A couple came by with large and friendly dogs . Anyway when I cast my spoon one of the dogs chased the splash and was very close to my treble hook . I stopped reeling worried I might catch the dog .Well damed if I didnt snag that retriever he was pulling harder than any fish in Chatty , But then in the dark this dog was suddenly right beside me but my line was still pulling hard. Ilanded a 25 inch walleye {released for next time ) . the point is fish dont care about dogs or deer or elk walking through there water This fish hit when the dog couldnt have been more than five feet away .before the dog park changed I fished the platte right there with my dogs raising hell all around me and would still kill the rainbows . SO WHATEVER they sure do make a good excuse for poor technique though !

As a stickler for the rules... Dogs off leash in a leash required area is no better or worse than the d-nozzle that put their aquarium pet into the water. The rules are still not bring followed.

Ư on the dogs!
Too often these "caring" dog owners let their pets run free with an "isn't that cute" attitude and little or no respect for anything or anyone else. I have had dogs get into my fish, my bait, my line, my lunch and almost break a rod with not so much as an apology. If a leash law is in effect, then it should be obeyed, or at the very least, pet owners should maintain control of the animal at all times. A leash law is there for everyone's benefit. It's not the dogs' fault they get in trouble...it's the owners. Good Fishing!

Some serious thread drift:
Piranha--> Pacu--> bucket biologists--> dogs--> dog owners...
It has been a long season!

I bring my dog, but he chills out on the bank usually. Surprising how many people let their dogs swim right through an area that has 'active' hooks in the water. They are either ignorant or just rude.
