catfiah bait
Post By: FishingApex      Posted: 8/21/2012 8:48:09 PM     Points: 180
I was thinking about making some catfish bait. My plan was to catch some blue gill and then put them in the blender with some garlic, olive oil, some onion, and maybe some chicken liver and flour to make it ball up. Do any of you catfish guys think that would really work.

Any thoughts would be great.

Happy fishin

If you're gonna make that concoction, use pantyhose. That's just my opinion, but I'm no Catfish expert by any means.

I mesh up all kinds of different baits together.
Bait fish crushed up, shrimp, garlic, liver, rotten worms,One of my favorites no one ever uses is bacon not cooked raw bacon its very oily and the cats love it. Another over looked mix is canned cat or dog food in it.

Don't forget the shad in the mix.

I actually had great big hits on a piece of hickory and apple smoked bacon. The rest was hit when I got home.

I never thought about bacon. We use chopped blue gill sometimes soaked in something smelly. Bacon is now on my shopping list.

Sounds like a lot of trouble and mess for something that might not be worthwhile. I wouldn't make a whole lot of it. You might also need a lot of flour to make it useable and that seems like it would dilute the smell. Sounds like they might be good deep fried! Definitely let us know what happens.

So I wasn't able to go out and catch any bluegill so I figured I would just buy some pre made bait and bacon. What would be the better ones to try?

I hate pre made bait it sux. If anything use liver or mix liver with the bacon that works well. And if you dont have cut bait catch a crawdad and use him alive just rip the claws off him.
