walleye bite at Pueblo
Post By: Walleye145      Posted: 8/11/2012 7:09:58 PM     Points: 0
I haven't made it to Pueblo in a month. Thinking about going Wednesday. Any report on the Walleye bite? Snapweights and cranks?

I too will actually be heading out this upcoming Friday with a buddy for a few hours. Any ideas where any eyes are biting. I haven't been down there for over 2 months. Any input would be great.

I have been out twice in the past 2 weeks targeting eyes and have come away with a SKUNK both times. The spots that I was hitting earlier this year are not producing like they were before. I have tried fishing the west fishing loop and the cove just west of the Sailboat launch beach you can drive out on over on the north shore. I had lots of luck fishing that cove around toward the island but the action is almost non-existent there. Of course I have been stuck on shore...

Have fun out there Walleye145!! Let us know how you do and what works for ya when you make it out.

I was talking to a guy at the Shell gas station that had caught a few keeper eyes last Friday afternoon. He said he was fishing the submerged railroad bed down near the mouth of Turkey Creek Cove using nightcrawlers on bottom bouncers. I had plans to hit that area in the next few days for a little bit each evening to see if I could intice some eyes into being part of a fish fry but wasnt able to make it yesterday afternoon. It might be worth a shot to check that area out if you are down there in a boat. I will be casting and reeling from shore so I'm not sure exactly how far out the submerged railroad bed is, especially with the water level dropping like it is...

Has anyone had any luck with leeches this year. I had great luck last year and earlier in the year but been several months. Hopefully Friday can be productive.

Leeches are my go to bait down there as we have landed LMB, SMB, cats, wipers, eyes, and even a big blue gill using them. I have been skunked my last few times out and was using leeches so prehaps the fish have become wise to them. We usually buy them from the north shore marina but last time we were there they were already closed (me being a night fisherman and all). The Walmart in Fountain had leeches last time I was there and I know you can get them from Xstream in Colorado Springs...

Well, me and my friend hit Pueblo on Friday and the bite was tough. We caught 6 walleyes trolling crankbaits and 4 bass on cranks and topwater. We fished from 8:30 am to 7:45 pm. All small fish. Still beats working.
