just got a 7'6 med. heavy baitcasting rod and c3 abu garcia reel. would like to spool it braided line. any recommendations which brand, line weight and does line color matter much. plan on going after big pike and tiger muskie.
Thanks!

i like fireline 12# on my Canada poles, then run steel leader, or heavy flouro 30#. I feel that fireline takes a while to get broke in but never had any problems.

I really like the castability of the spider wire stealth,... really supple line right out of the box. What you gain in flexability you give up in durability though. Nothing lasts like power pro and I've tried a ton. never liked the fire line,... over priced for the perfomance IMHO,... but you know what they say opinions are like a$$*&@!* everyone has them

Power Pro only way to go!! I use 10-2 moss green, WalleyWorld has best pricing. A-Dub

X2 what Catchn said, spider frays to much for me. I went to Hong Cong for the Spectra Dyneema, on ebay, for cheap.

I prefer the 40# powerpro. Its sensitive and strong and only the diameter of 8# mono.

20Lbs powerpro or spiderwire stealth braid. Thats what I use most of the time. ties nice and last pretty darn long!

I have my musky rod spooled up with powerpro 40lb. It's been on there for 2 years now never had an issue with it. Casts great and won't break. This year I tried suffix braid in 30lb for, casting smaller pike lures. Seemed to cast very well for me. Pulled a 36" through the, heavy reeds and cabbage no problem. As far as color, I always go with moss green/green. In dirty water I use steel leaders, clear water heavy flouro. Sometimes I will use flouro while, fishing jerkbaits to get better action from the lure.

Hope this helps

thank you all for the reply. 1 more thing. I've heard that i may want to spool about a quarter with mono, then tie on the braided. does that stand up.

Sure does...Braid likes to slip when trying to spool..A little mono backing then braid and your good to go..

Or you could just put a piece of tap around the spool. Thats what i did and it worked out just fine

Another way to secure slippery line to a spool is with a piece of rubber from a bicycle inner tube. I cut a tubular section and ease it over the spool lip. Very stretchy and will accommodate a large range of spool diameters.

I like the power pro.

I've done the tape thing too. Worked well for me.

Power Pro, with electrical or duct tape on the spool. Safe choice! I run 30# and never think twice to tug like hell on a snag etc.
