quantum smoke reels
Post By: stowe      Posted: 8/6/2012 4:57:54 PM     Points: 88
Anyone have any expirience with these? I just ordered one and realized I probably should have asked about them before dropping the cash. I was trying to decide between this and a shimano saros. I've never had a quantum before but, I've heard good things and figured I'd give it a shot. It's the SL25PTi spinning model.

I've been looking at that same reel as a replacement for the TD Tierra 2000 (on the downward slide after 2 seasons of heavy use) on my walleye rod. The problem I've had in the past quantum reels in the past is line (mono and fluorocarbon, I never used superlines on them) eating into the graphite surrounding the line roller. Once this happens, it chews the hell out of line, and replacing the rotor isn't much cheaper than replacing the entire reel. This has occurred with catalyst, kinetic, and older model energy reels. Until these reels get a full season of use and some reviews come up, I'd rather save the money.

Should of got a Flueger! In my opinion they are one of the best reels for the money and are very smooth

I have pflugers and while they are great for the money and I recomend them to a lot of people something about the shape/feel never seems quite right to me with them on some rods.
The rotor on the smoke is suposed to be made out of some "long strand carbon fiber" I would think that would include the part next to the line roller but, who knows.
I agree that the better ($100 plus) shimanos are great. not disputing that. Just wanted to try something new.
Well I'll let you all know how it turns out.

I have a Curado, and think its a little smother than the Quantum Smoke. Biggest reason I picked up the Curado is it was on sale for $89

I have a smoke bait cast that is awesome! Spinning wise I'd recommend the Shimano stradic. Hefty price of 199 but you can pick one up on eBay for 170. This is by far the best spin cast I've ever used.

I have a stradic and agree that it is great. Like I said I decided to try something new. I'm glad to hear the people who have some hands on time with these seem to like them. Now I just have to wait for the thing to show up.

I use pfluger spin reels.......but they dont make left retrieve baitcasters for some stupid reason......so if youre right handed and retrieve left like you should.......pfluger is out.

I have used higher end Quantums i.e P.T. I'S for a while and have had some issues after a couple of years. Bought Shimano at the start of spring. Will not go back to Quantums!
