I've been fishing that lake for a LONG time and I've never seen bass. I've heard of them in there but I haven't seen any myself. If your going for only bass, I'd skip the Mile and head to Pueblo or something. The Mile is mostly a trout lake n e more with some pike and always the carp. Good luck - tight lines!

I think your chances at a smallie are slim up there, but some people know where to find them. If you check at the bait shop/boat rental place there, they might be able to give you some more info. Everything I gathered from them was very typical smallmouth information. You probably want to be on a boat, because they are being caught off the rocks with tube jigs and other crayfish imitations. The pics of the smallies I saw indicated good size. I mean, think about it. Nobody is targeting them up there and the population isn't huge. With the pike in there whatever smallmouth survive have to be badasses, and with that dominance in their genes, they will be big and strong.

i do usually go down to pueblo, and more recently headed up to chesseman. but im lookin to give myself options. ill have to stop in sometime to the bait shop and see what they have to say if its even worth trying or if ill just try my hand at pike again.
