I HATE CATFISH
Post By: kittyfisher      Posted: 8/5/2012 4:54:20 PM     Points: 107
So, after countlees hours, money and miles walked, I have came to one conclusion I HATE CATFISH!!!!!!!! Every bait I could think of, numerous lakes and ponds, and a total of 4 small cats at big thompson ponds. I've tried lakes or ponds that others on this site have suggested, heck , I've even had offers to tell me about a place, or the ever popular meet me here, I'll show you how and where to catch em offers, only to be blown off or not replied to. If you dont really want to teach me or show me , dont freakin offer!!! The only catfishing I'll be doing from now on is with a 12 gauge!!!

I feel your pain. Kitties can be tricky, especially in lakes where there are not tons of them. Wrong location in the lake or wrong bait and you come up empty.

I've always preferred baits where I could catch another species if the kitties are not cooperating that night. Nightcrawlers, bluegill, perch, shiners are all favorites because if the kitties don't cooperate, maybe the bass, walleye, pike, or muskies will make my night instead.

A fishing partner is also important, because then we can soak four baits and there's a better chance of figuring out what bait is working.

Geez--Go easy there kittyfisher. I have come to the conclusion that catfish are not that easy to catch. I am 0 for 10 trips out this year specifically targeting cats. Makes it more of a challenge to me. My goal for the month of August is to catch one At least you got some little ones. Beats my shutout. Keep the faith my friend. I plan on trying again next weekend somewhere in Northern Colorado.

Well you may as well give up on fishing then.
Because doesn't sound like your doing your research and all species will need a shotgun to catch them in your case.

I thought you were going to head out with Jman,or was that someone else?
You need a cattin buddy it will help you learn.

FYI
There were 5 of us out last sat with 30 man hrs and only 5 cats landed
2 large ones and 3 dinks. And I like to think we know what we are doing. Moral to the story is its not as easy to catch them as some may think, at least the bigger ones.
You may not be doing any thing wrong, they might not be in that area at that time eating.
On that other thread I gave you all the info you need to catch them, if you divert from that because of lack of faith then you will not catch.
If you want to catch more then down size it.
The tools for catching them are inside this forum I tell everyone that but they wont take the time to read the past threads or spend a couple dollars to access what is on the plus side.

Dang chill.
I was at the gravel pond friday night with my dad and them like i said i was, know one came up and introduced them selves,
You need to realize if you want someones help then you set it up i told you i have the cats on lock around here but you need to make the effort of picking the time and coming up to me.
Im not going to walk around the pond looking for you to help you and show you what im doing.
Cats can be tricky no doubt it takes time to lock them down and still skunks will happen friday night we had 5 guys all with 2 rods each and only managed 2 cats.
Keep at it thats why i fish working hard and getting the rewarding feeling of when the time pays off.

I know your pain, but it will pay off soon. @Jman, would you want to meet up sometime? I would love to land a cat?

Look guys, Im not trying to be an a** to anyone , especially Jman . Ya said you were goin with your pops friday and didnt want to barge in on your father son time , but I still looked for ya. Only really saw one large group of people and honestly I wouldnt know you if you were standing right next to me. Had a coulpe of replies on my email and they all jerked me around. I havent figured out the code talk here, so I wasnt sure if you wanted to meet up. As far as doing my reserch , have walked over 25 miles at the lake and the ponds, scouting spots , buying maps, cant find one for the ponds, but I have found every one of them. Research is alot easier when your actually on the water. Kind of hard to tell contours and depths from shore. How much more research can I do? Sorry if I offended anyone . wont hear another word from me.

bummer dude, been there done that..!! fyi nice map for sale at the visitors center at that lake, pretty cool scale version of the dam and lake there too (no longer working) but still pretty cool to look at.....by the way 12 gauge is not a (legal method of taking fish) in colorado...hehe..

If it was easy, it wouldn't be fun. Let the challenge motivate you to fish more, spend more and walk more. You'll figure it out. I've been on the water with old-timers and taught them something while they were teaching me something. Thats the beauty of fishing, the hard work put into it and the success gained from it. The right pond and the right bait aren't the only variables to consider when fishing for Catfish. Read up on it some and go back out there with a new arsenal of knowledge. You'll hook into a fatty one of these days. When I get stumped by a species, I go after a species that I am more familiar with so that I can build my confidence back up. Have fun out there and keep your chin up!

Kittyfisher, you didn't offend anyone here. We all know your frustration- we've all experienced it- its part of the game, you see...
Keep at it, and do hook up with some of the wise guys that know the cats.

if youre looking for a place in northern co. for catfish you should try at jayhawker ponds in loveland. The north pond has some really nice cats in it and there is a dock so it is easy to fish and chicken liver works the best!

Alright man ill show you my favorite spot i can relate to you i have struggled before.
You pick the day i will throw you my number and will get you a nice cat.

Only 3 things i ask.
1, the big cats will be released if you keep it i will never go out with you idc about smaller cats there better eating anyways.
2, Since i am showing you my big cat hole you buy the crawlers and stuff to catch the bait.
3, Biggest one is you cant tell a soul about the spot or area there are monsters and i usually hook into a 15+ pounder every night alot of people know about the spot just dont fish it right.
If you can do this then ill help you get a MA cat.

JMAN, hell I can do that. Then I don't have to worry about you poking fun at how small my fish are anymore... :-D

I always up for learning.

kittyfisher - Where abouts are you? I'm in Loveland. Not much experience with catching anything big, but I fry up some nice dinks. Maybe we'll grab a sixer and have a night of it... fishing that is. I could show you a spot i get my dinks. Would that help?

if you want catfish go to union the bite is good but size is small until it gets later into the night then the larger ones come out. I fished there on the 28th of last month caught tons of them...ending the trip with two 20 inchers just right for the table

Thanks all for your comments ,suggestions and offers. Jman, what can I say? Thanks , but no thanks. I dont want a monster or an award handed to me , heck I dont even really know what an MA is , or how to get one !
Would still like to find ya and say hi though . Be nice to put a face to that generous offer. Im here in Thornton, and keep it to a weekend thing at chatty. Usually fish alone, but I might hit some of you guys up for a night on the water, not in your honey hole, to drowned a worm. I need to earn this , but it sure would be great to see a monster caught, by anyone!!!

I only visit CO coupla weeks a year, so am not an active forum poster. But, last year lucked into some decent daytime catfishing on jigs, no dinks, average 3-5#. About an hour across a state line to this spot which I won't public post out of respect for the locals. PM if interested.

Edit: oops, does this forum support personal messaging?

Hey, stowe,
