Fishing with Grandpa
Post By: carlizzle      Posted: 7/31/2012 11:03:54 PM     Points: 160
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good trout fishery relatively close to Denver that I can take my mom and grandpa to on Tuesday the 7th. Mom can get around okay but is starting to have trouble and grandpa is 92, WWII vet, former great fisherman but he doesn't move around too well anymore. I'd appreciate your input, I'd love to get him out on the water again.

I would recomend 2 places. St. Vrain state park, or Georgetown. gtown can get a bit windy. St. Vrain is easy access, and there are plenty of fish.

Your a lucky person to still have Grandpa around to fish with....I wish mine was still around.

St Vrain hasn't been stocked with trout since around March, so if you were looking for trout that might not be the best choice. I usually fished best in spring/fall.
Georgetown is usually good with worms or powerbait. Also I would look into Golden Gate State park. There is very easy access and it is usually good fishing.

I would recommend Brainard Lake above Ward. You can drive right up
to the water. Lots of brookies and great views.

Monday 7 moose 100 yards from the lake.

I hope you treasure every moment you can with your grandpa. I will never be able to go fishing with mine anymore, he has extreme cancer and is now in hospice care. He was the greatest fisherman and man I have ever known.

Happy Fishin

Evergreen Lake comes to mind first. Lots of trout on power bait (bright colors). Easy access from the golf course / diner parking lot. The drive is beautiful as well if you go up Hwy 285 and take 74 through the canyon.

I think back to when I fished with my G-parents... those were some of the best days of my life. Kudos to you for being such a good grandkid!

You are about to experience an adventure you will remember the rest of your life. Enjoy every minute of it!

Don't forget your camera :)
