Lake: Evergreen Lake
Wildlife Encounters
Post By: Mattastrophy      Posted: 7/9/2012 10:58:47 AM     Points: 302
I was fishing this morning at Evergreen Lake. I have fished there many times before and I have even seen the Elk while fishing. As I was fishing, staring out into the lake enjoying the crisp morning air, I hear a strange noise. I think I remember that is sounds like the bugle of an elk. I turn around and I am encroached upon by around 30 elk. Mostly ladies, a couple bulls with minimal racks with velvet still. The best part came when I saw about 7 or eight little elk fawns with spots still. They did not seem to mind me being there, bt I was still a little concerned about not having any escape route without nearing the mommas or comong between them and their kiddos. So I simply hung out and took photos and a few videos with my phone. Here is one of those videos.

Wow, that is awesome.
Most places I go don't seem to have a whole lot of wildlife... and if so... I think I make enough noise to chase them off.

I will say, I've come across more snakes. They're a lot of fun.

I saw a young moose on the road up to Jefferson lake. The rest of the day I was just hoping I wouldn't see any more, moose are way to unpredictable and I don't want to be anywhere close to them if I can help it.

Mattastrophy...
Do you remember a restaurant on Evergreen Lake called the Waterworks? I was wondering if it was still there? I was the Chef there back in the 70's, and haven't been back there since. Great pics...thanks for sharing. Good Fishing!

Skiman: Don't really know anything about the local spots other than the lake. I am always just in and out for fishing. My wife and I were married at the lake house so it holds a special place for me ... but that is about it!

That video was sick as hell man. Ive never seen an elk in water, and ive seen thousands hunting threw the years. That was awesome, you should feel pretty pumped about that experience. Thanks for sharing

This guy came right into our camp and was a little aggressive while we were in the backcountry.

Nice pics and video! Thanks for sharing, we see kayaks sneak up to the herds...not too smart.

Just don't get between a bull and a cow during mating season. LOL

Very cool. Great idea for a thread as well. The only thing I've seen while fishing were a couple of foxes.
