Post By: artic cat      Posted: 7/3/2012 10:08:25 AM     Points: 160
We are a little unsure of how to fish for Kokanee at blue mesa we have down riggers and a fish finder. Do we need to use a dodger? or cow bells what kind of lure do we need to use and how deep do we need to be going? Any information would help thank you.

We just got home yesterday after a week trip to BM. We caught kokanee between 12" - 20" on hot pink z-rays with no extra hardware at all both lead core and down rigger. Then also used more typical stuff as well. For us reds and pinks worked. I spoke with people who felt green was the way to go. Some people used little squid jigs behind flashers, etc. The main thing is get out early. The surface temp is 63 at first light and by the time it hits 65 around 11 the fish go deep. We caught fish as late as noon but its a lot harder.

On a side note the "Weekend Warrior" folks are excellent. The marina is great. The food at Pappys is great. The whole operation overall is nicely done.

If anyone is annoyed with boat inspections this may help. A guy from Oklahoma went to inspect at BM on Saturday and literally had clusters of musscels on his boat that he knew were there. Unbelieveable. Luckily the inspection caught it and quarantined his boat for a day to clean it up. You could fill the palm of your hand with the musscels from that one boat.

Some use wedding ring spinners, with an inch piece of worm or shoepeg corn, and also needle fish brand spoon.
