So we hit the river again this week to have yet another great day of fishing and some odd occurances. To start, we did not catch a single brown all day, crazy right! Fortunately for us, we were able to get into some really nice size bows as well as some very nice wild brookies. Now before I go on I would like to point out that we fished BC all the way from the Upper BC past Evergreen Lake down to the town of Morrison. All the brook trout were caught above Evergreen Lake and only Rainbows caught below the lake. The biggest Bow was just pushing 14" while the biggest Brook was well over 10". We had the most success in the deepest pools for rainbows mean while up at the upper part of BC you could find the little Brookies everywhere. The fish were really keyed in on bead head copper johns and good ol' princes. We were on the river very early, to find a good number of small trout rising, as well as a few admirable sized ones too. This has been the longest time we have spent on this one river yet, to find that it was well worth it. Once that rain hit we could not go anywhere without catching fish, hpoefully next time we are out there we will have the same luck again. Also here are just a few of the many pictures we got from our little trip.
Sweet day Pike. I'll be up there this weekend. I've noticed the browns are staying closer to the bank edges. Faster water. I've caught some nice browns up there. Love to hook up with ya one of these days. Seems the dry drop is working up there. Any luck on drys? Hit me up if you'll be there this weekend. Djrobc@hotmail.com. Static drifts. Štîmÿ
Fishing Bum and Cronsell08, I will be sure to see you on the Bear sometime too, also I personally didnt fish any dries but I dont believe anyone had luck on them.
Ill forsure see you guys up there soon, ive been catching alot of browns on size 20 adams, mayflies, and blue winged olives. Heres a pic of a decent brookie and rainbow caught the other day on one of my brook streams.
I usually fish about a mile up from lair o the bear and work down. Sounds like some good action up river towards Evergreen. Think I'll start there this weekend and work down. The first time I fished BC I slayed them on a dry. But also on the nymphs. Seems presentation is key on BC. Half the time it's all leader fishin. I'm fishing maxima ultra green mono tipped with 2 lb there for better drifts. Can't wait to hit it again this weekend.
I was out there today. Did really well on dries. Where do you fish the river above Evergreen Lake? I looked for some places but like all of it was private property. Thanks

Please help my confusion when I researched upper bear creek in the wilderness area, I found it was closed until 8/15 and that was confirmed by posters on this board. and it seems from the wilderness down to evergreen is pretty much private? Like Cronsell said, can you give a general area there was public fishing for brookies? certainly not a lot of those between Morrison and Evergreen. Or, did I get bad info on the upper BC in the Mt. Evans wilderness and it is actually open for fishing? thanks for clarifying.

No upper BC was definitely open, there were a lot of people hiking there, I think you were misleaded because someone probably didnt want you to find out about how great this place is haha, because that is exacty where we were was MT Evans State Wildlife Area, Its a bit of trek but once you get away from it all it is definitely worth it. I did find that there are some areas closed of at certain times of the year but not where we were, again there were people parking and hiking in all day, so maybe it is just the road that is closed off to vehicles to get to the creek that you might be thinking of.

thanks pikely. my understanding is that upper bear creek road eventually dead ends in a parking lot inside the wilderness and you have to hike to the creek from there. is that correct? thanks again. i love brookies. if you want to email me, i've found a couple nice brookie creeks that don't require a hike (yet are always empty) and maybe you swap some trail info and directions/advice on the upper bc.
That is exactly what it is, there is a pull off parking lot with bathrooms and then just past that a gate that says FIRE ROAD, which from there is closed to vehicles but not to the public.
To bad you guys are busy Sunday. I made a last minute change of planes. Hittin Big T on Sunday instead. Bum, Pike. Have you guys tossed bugs there? Never been! Any info would be epic for me. Thanks. Good luck on Saturday.
