What type of bait is best for catfish?

I vote dead minnows. Other people use chicken liver, cutbait, worms, crawdads, and stink bait. Shrimp and muscles are commonly used also.

Small live perch work great for big catfish. One way is to "jug fish" which is legal in Texas but I don't know about your state. Jug fishing with small live perch for bait works really well on some lakes around here.

I use live crawdads and cutbait. I have found that with cutbait you catch catfish but nothing that big. Live crawdads about 4 in work really well for big cats for me just fish them on the bottom on a slip rig with a good size circle hook I also always remove the claws.
Good luck hope this helps.

I have been experimenting with these others things as mentioned above but still have caught all mine at the creek on just a plain old worm. But then again maybe that will change this year with baits I am experimenting with.

Let us know how it goes I have been having a hard time this year at the creek for kitties....so far.

I recently tried cut up salmon. Had some freezer burned fillets with skin. Cut them into ~ 2 inch squares. Catfish loved them. Keep the package incase the F&G think your using cut up trout.
