Boulder Res fishing
Post By: scott4991      Posted: 6/25/2012 10:58:26 PM     Points: 91
I've been fishing CO for about 18 months now - and had some great times. I typically fish the creeks and most times catch several fish each outing but 8-12" or so. I've gone to Antero a few times and caught some nice ones in the belly boat - really like this - now I'm sort of hooked on the larger than 12" fish (which is what I catch in the streams). I'm going to try Boulder Res.. perhaps by the inlet by Coot.. anyone else belly boating this area? Thoughts?

Thanks
Scott

Alright partner, I'm gonna chime in here, I asked for some advice the other day about Boulder res, had a few nice gentlemen offer there advice for the areas they fish, but nobody that fishes Boulder Res offered any help, So I stocked up on what I knew and went there last night to try it out and see how it is. Fishing was slow during the the early afternoon but into the evening fishing got great! go closer to the pumphouse in the middle of the dam, fish have moved on to that area I pulled out 3 nice keeper walleyes floating leeches around 15" off the bottom in front of the pumphouse. I did start closer to coot where you are saying and had zero bites. Hope this will help you, I plan on heading there this evening best of luck!

I went to Boulder Res around 7am this morning. I suppose I was looking / expecting something different - there were people swarmnig all around, renting boats (at 7am!).. parking lots were about full, there were a few nice picnik tables under shaded trees - which were taken.. and this was on a Tuesday. The water was smooth, (no wind) but I saw no one else fishing. I talked to the guy at the Gate - he was somewhat helpful, telling me to head toward the Dam if I wanted to fish.. but honestly the amount of people and boats was not what I had in mind. I brought my Belly Boat but did not get it out. I left and may return with my wife at some point, but this was not what I expected.

I'm happy to know others are catching fish, and it seems late in the evening is working best based on the reports.

Thanks

Scott

Sounds like the dam is where it is at. I got no action at the inlet the other night.

I also use black leech patterns, minnow streamers, or crayfish on a flyrod.
Usually only catch SMbass, but I have managed to hook a couple of walleye.
I have not really gotten dialed in there at all, and there is a ton of forage right now. Sorry for not posting earlier!
