Lake: Gross Reservoir
Shore Fishing at Gross
Post By: WalleyeDon      Posted: 6/23/2012 10:36:39 AM     Points: 14
Hello Anglers,

I have never fished Gross Reservoir but have camped and hiked around there though it's been a few (like 10) years. I live in Boulder.

Could anyone give me a good recommendation for a place to do some shore fishing? I have a 4WD Jeep Cherokee Sport so access shouldn't be a problem.

No need to disclose any "secret" spots, just looking for some afternoon fishing fun as most of my favorite spots north of Boulder (Pinewood and Red Feather Lakes) are currently engulfed in smoke.

Any responses appreciated.

Thanks.

About anywhere u should catch tons of small bows. I would suggest the inlet though i catch some decent fish there.

I like to use waterdogs rigged behind a 4 oz weight, cast out about 60 yards from the shore by the dam. Some people suggest circle hooks but I just use treble stingers to keep the bait on and get a good hookset. There are some real monsters in gross.

Fishyguy are you fishing for trout? What is a waterdog? 4 OZ weight!? I've always suspected monsters at Gross but haven't been able to prove it really...

My good spots are the dam (but gets to crowded sometimes), and about half way to the inlet the spot is on a big sand hill that leads to the water when at the spot if you look strait forward the inlet is almost strait ahead the current pushes the fish to you. I have the best luck with floating worms about 30 feet out and casting tas devils pink/blue with slow retrieve .. best of luck

Can't really go wrong. Pick a cove and work it!
