Hagler Catfish Help!
Post By: Crewser      Posted: 6/20/2012 6:25:40 PM     Points: 135
I go to Lon Hagler quite often and have caught many fish. One that has eluded me is those big channel cats, or any cat. Any tips on baits, gear, anything to use or places to fish for them would be very helpful.

I'm interested in the same thing.. Went there a couple times last year at night and never caught one. I used livers, shrimp (caught a white bass), and cut bluegill.

I have caught a few cats in the past year. I have caught them early in the morning dam. I use gulp blood nuggets off the bottom. The cats have all been decent size and fun to catch!

yeah there really isnt much structure to the hag. thats one reason why you dont get into the cats much, but yes towards the dams and rocky areas, i have also gotten into some cats last year

Hey Crewser,

I remembered a few years back seeing this interesting post by Bocephus about cats in Hagler, caught by an unconventional method.

You might give it a go. Tight lines!

I haven't been up there this year but I always catch channel cats on the west end of the lake from the boat. When the water is high there is lots of vegetation and snags try using the biggest shiner under bobber/slip float windy days are best let the wind carry your float across the shallow flat on the west end..... good luck

to get cats out of haggler you need to find long points in the lake that drop off. I like to use chicken liver and suckers on a circle hook with a trailing trebel hook held down by a egg sinker a black swivel and 4 foot leter cast it out tighten it up a little and open your real watch for it to start to run and wait for it a little bit longer and set the hook. I have always had lick with this technique cat fishing. they normally like to bite between midnight and 3 am good luck and tight lines.

Im thinking about going cat fishing out at the ol hag tonight. but i think i am going to try a new bait and see how the luck is.

Thanks guys I went a few days ago at like 5:00 a.m. and I got three hits by the dock on chicken liver, all pulled my rod into the water but when I got to the rod there was nothing and the bait was gone. I assume they were cats but you never know. I met a guy who said he caught about 6 by the dock on chicken liver just before the sun rose. Good luck to everyone and thanks ahead of time for any other tips.
