Just wanted to update everyone on the free guided trip with Dan Swanson that I won during the annual FxR give away last December. I talked with Dan through emails on tactics and species of fish we would like to get into the day of the trip a few months prior. I told him that we would like to troll crank baits for walleye. Dan told me he would bring everything we would need to do just that.
With some adjustments due to the fire up north we had to change the location from Horsetooth over to Carter. My buddy John and I met Dan at the ramp @ 6am last Thursday and hopped aboard an awesome Ranger 620 decked out with matching Evinrudes- a 250 hp H.O. and a 15 hp H.O. Dan brought some nice walleye trolling rods and gear ready to be put to work for the first time on Carter this year.
We untied from the dock and flew across the lake in short order to scan the water with the sonar to see what our toothy friends were up to. Dan located some fish on some ledges and we quickly put out a nice spread with the trolling rods. A few passes later we had our first eye in the boat.
It was a tough bite that morning with limited fish found in areas they typically would be found and eager to chase down our cranks but we continued on talking about night time fishing spots on Carter, talking about sonar adjustments, talking about tackle and tournament fishing. Then we landed a nice 24" plus eye to end the trip.
Thank you Dan for a great time out on Carter Lake, John and I learned alot and wish you the best this year has to offer.
