Day of Firsts.......Belly Boat...Pella....strange hookup...

I picked up a Belly Boat at a yard sale (boat and 2 sets fins for $22). Today was my first time in one. Awesome way to fish! I'm a shore fisher and it was great to reach areas you can't from shore as well as be on the good side of the weed line. Didn't bring camera as I wasn't sure if I would sink or float. lol
First time at Pella. I fished Heron and had a great time. It was very windy at first so I just went to the lee side of an island and it was tranquil. Landed 6 LM Bass all between 17" and 22". Lost another good fish as well as missed several hook sets. I was fishing plastic worms wacky all day (mostly greens with purple fleck). Also caught 2 large Bluegills one of which deep-throated a 5" Senko! Not a bad way to spend 4 hours.
Strange Hookset caught Bluegill by setting hook in the eye of a hook already in his mouth!
Pella is a great area to fish. I can't wait to check out the other lakes. Any suggestions as to the best lake to target Crappie? I have never gone after them specifically and want to give it a go.

No pics. I was too worried I would get it wet since I never was in a belly boat before and it was a yard sale purchase. My fears were justified since I was riding very low. I didn't realize I was supposed to have a cross beam in front as it didn't come with one. The 22" was the first one I caught. I was like "this is the Colorado bass promised land" lol. Had a blast. Can't wait to check out a crossed the street. I am planning to rig up some sort of strap backpack to haul the tube and gear easier.

Try a personal flotation seat. You can find them at Bass Pro Gander Mt, or any place like that. What it is is a foam seat for boating. Eather bungie it or tape a round the seat of your belly boat. And it will get you up out of the water and you can see better. Good Luck.
I can just imagine how many people will be at those ponds tomorrow. /sigh
Guys will have to learn the hard way that when you find a sweet pond, don't broadcast it on here or else you can expect 20+ guys showing up the next day.
I'm trying to understand...? Isin't spicyhombre the guy that just had the post about catching a decent Bass in a small pond, and wanting to protect the location???
Now he's hotspotting!?!
spicey, I had a lot of respect for your last post. You thought that place was crowded. Imagine what posts like this are going to do to these ponds...
Sorry guys I thought Pella was already known as a good spot. My bad. I guess I shouldn't post on conditions updates either with the exception of water conditions, etc. I guess only post on conditions if I get skunked.
There are people on here who would love to have all ponds named. Others, like myself (and obviously others) cringe whenever I see a Bass pond named.
Like I said, your last post rocked.
People can learn from what you used, and most enjoy seeing pictures (like last post) too. I've dropped cameras before, so completely understand your not taking it on this trip.
Others will want more info, but I sincerely (please) ask you to not mention any ponds by name.

Catchem All- I like your suggesting of flotation seat. I will give it a try. Looks like it will have the added bonus of allowing me to leave the life vest at home. Not only should this give much better visibility, it would probably be more comfortable too. Definitely feel having something to help keep afloat if the tube pops is wise especially while wearing waders which will fill with water if you end up swimming. Thanks for the tip.

Nice post! Glad to hear you had a good time on the "garage pick", my 1st time on my "used bellyboat" did not end up so great! Nice to hear you got into some decent fish! I agree with above, if you have the back for it, try the west side. Pella is getting alot of attention! But the DOW and sheriff are keeping up on the negative activities(bait,licences,ect.)... as far as pressure, U's guys are in boats?!? What's the problem, havta work a little at it? Check the signs on the west side, there are eyes there too! Good luck! Nice report!
