Heading up to the Roosevelt National Forrest / Indian Peaks wilderness this weekend and need some information. Will be up there this fathers days weekend and plan to hike a whole lot with a good friend and his son.
What patterns ( fly ) are best out there around this time for Crater, Clayton and Arapahoe Lakes? Also since we are up there any trails / Lakes you suggest we visit?
Thank You in advance,
Steve

mb, I'd go with a black gnat or a scud. And I believe that's the James Peak Wilderness. Don't forget Forest Lakes and Heart Lake but for sure hit upper Crater. BTK

Called last week..said snow everywhere within a half mile of the lakes. Haven't heard of anyone else being up there yet. I'll probably call the ranger later and get info. If anyone else can fill in some info that would be helpful.

From what I've heard there is still a fair bit of snow up there. As of two weeks ago, woodland and skyscraper were still only partially open and it was kind of a slog to get there according to a blog post I read. I think Crater is open and accessible though. I'll probably wait another couple weeks. Good luck.
