Post By: HeavyC      Posted: 6/5/2012 7:22:49 AM     Points: 5442
Ok, it is that time of year again!!

Everyone please join in and help make this SWA a better place!!

What: A morning of collecting anything that doesn’t belong

Where: Big Thompson Ponds SWA
Directions: From Loveland, go 5 miles E on Hwy 402 to I-25
frontage Rd then 3/4 mile N to interstate underpass. Go left
through underpass then 1/4 mile N.
When: Saturday July 14th, 9am-11am

The Scene: We will spend 1-2 hours collection trash from
around the State Wildlife Area making it a much better place
for future visitors! Afterwards we will have a potluck
BBQ/Grilling session.

To volunteer, please contact me directly at:
Marty Martinez (aka=HeavyC)
heavyc1965@hotmail.com or
970-689-0420

Many folks will be wetting a line before and after as historically this event has only taken 1-2 hours to complete. Tables, water, trash bags, hand sanitizer & hand cleaner will be provided.

As normal, I will provide the grills, burgers, hand sanitizer, water and supplies for cleaning hands, and bags!

Thanks!

I attended last year and this is a great time, a good thing to do, and the fishing is a bonus. If my schedule works out I'll be there again.

Just bumping to the top!!

If you are planning on attending, I would love a personal e-mail or call to confirm your attendance and to let me know what, if anything you will be bringing for the potluck. This really helps me to know how many will be there and also what everyone is bringing so we do not forget anything.

Hey, If i'm in town i will surely stop by to help out. Stoped there for the first time a couple weeks ago. Personally did not like the place, however I would give it a try again. Speaking to some people who have fished it before would help too, and this would be a great opportunity to do so. On another note HeavyC I caught a fish from a pond in Greeley (don't want to name here) and would like your help to identify. I think it's a white bass but i did not expect to catch one here. I found a post of yours through google from a couple years ago on this pond so i thought you would be the right person to ask. Do you mind if i use your phn# from this post to foward you the pic?

Gurnman, In my opinion the biggest problem Big T ponds has is its unrealized potential... and of course the scums that use it as their personal trashcan. There are some good sized fish in certain areas but they are extremely cautious.... and a challenge. I know peeps like to keep their fishing hole secret but this is an area I actually think would benefit from more C&R traffic (or folks that like to take Bluegill :) ... More adults on the playground so to speak.

Sure, go ahead Gurnman...I'll see what I can make of it.

You're probably right Steve. Smoothing out the road leading up to it would be nice too. My GTO got beat up on the way there, put me in a bad mood to begin with. Then i tried to walk around the back of the first pond only to realize it was a dead end (without some major hiking). I was there 30 minutes before i got my first cast in, then it got snaged.

What's the bottom of the ponds like. I started with a tube jig, and got snaged. To grumpy after that to tie something else on, took the bumpy road back home...

LOL! Yeah, you sure need a machete if you wanna go around the first pond!!...and that road! Gives me a case of the arse everytime I drive it too! Once in a while a road grating would be nice!

Actually a good bump Steve, thanks!

As it is getting a bit closer, I would really like to firm up who is coming, so if you have not I would really like a personal call of e-mail confirming your attendance, or if you need to go ahead and do it here. This way I can make a good list and know how much food to bring!

Thanks,
Marty
