Fish: Cutthroat Trout
Greenbackin

Tough day today..fish are smarter than I think. Managed to get a few though on the way up to Estes. The Vrain was tough and not much luck there but was able to get this beauty before heading back to Boulder. They wanted nothing to do with whatever I was throwing out but were finally hitting the orange scuds. Beautiful day before the clouds rolled in and glad I made it out. They are in full spawn now so be careful.

These, when fished for at a high, clear lake are my favorite species in Colorado. Sight fishing is the bomb. Not a fan of lilly really, but still cool.

I was catching Cutts yesturday as well. maybe even at the same lake.. (I had my wife and two really loud kids with me..?) Not long after the clouds moved in, the fishing picked up again.

Anyway, beautiful fish. Nice catches

I really rely on sight fishing when going for these..its not my favorite place to go but like I said I was with my brother that wasn't up for a hike this weekend. I also got him to get his first fish on the fly rod so I'm happy either way. Very nice fish Dave and nice colors.

Yeah it was busy as I knew it would be. I kept truckin up highway 7 but not a lot of level water. A lot of drop offs and canyon pools. I drove through the Allen Park where a guy shot himself by accident in the face apparently.

Good looking fish. I haven't been out fishing for those guys yet. I've been kind of biding my time waiting for some of the higher altitude lakes to open up. There are two lakes in the Indian Peaks Wilderness that I'm determined to hit this year that should have bigger GBs, possibly grayling, and few people.

Have you been up to any of those higher lakes this year? If so, how are they looking? I lost one of my snowshoes, so I don't really want to posthole my way up there. Any word on the road up to Left Hand Res?

LOVE LILY!

Landed a few on #24 midge dries a few weeks ago...

didn't know you could wade in lily, thought it was shore fishing only?

also did not know GB's spawned so early, caught/saw spawners in late aug. last year, although that was my first year fishing for them and at much higher elevations.

Learn something new everyday.

Nice catches all

Tight lines

We waded because a few other guys were up there and said it was ok. Never even read regulations...I sure hope I wasn't breaking any laws!!

your first mistake was not reading the regulations...

I had only been there once and just remember reading some special regs.

They usually close the east shoreline for spawning. Hopefully it doesn't take them closing it for people to realize not to walk on the reds. I fished up there a few times early season and killed it. Orange asher is one of the best dries for that lake.
