Lake: Big Creek Lake(lower)
Big Creek Lake Question
Post By: fcfishingman      Posted: 6/1/2012 8:13:54 PM     Points: 338
I'm heading up to Big Creek lakes in a couple of weeks. I plan on going to the upper lake and also to big creek falls, but i want to use my boat to get to the inlet and cut off about a mile of the hike. Does anyone know if it is possible to find the trail/ the way to the upper lake? I picked up the book Colorado's Incredible Back Country Trails, so i think its possible, but i can't be too sure that it is. Thanks for any advice.

If you go to the inlet you can follow the creek to upper big creek. It's real easy and the trail is right along side the creek you can't miss it. We always stay to the right of the creek but at the start its tuff to get over some logs. Then it's about a half mile to the top lake, good luck!

Thanks for the tips. Last year (the picture i posted) i was up around the inlet and pondered exploring it, but decided to hold off because the water seemed to be pretty high and a storm was coming.

Hopefully the fishing is as good as last year, i am looking forward to getting up there and exploring the upper lake and also the falls.

if anyone else has some tips, feel free to pass them along.

I figured the pic was from last year, I don't think there will be that much water this year but i'm hoping the fishing is good as well. i'll be there 22nd for few days, Ice fishing was great this past winter iced the BC four times and released several very respectful fish.

This will be my 4th visit to Big Creek Lakes, the previous 3 times the water has been crazy high, with lots of marshes and flooding, never seen it "low". it will be my first time to the upper lake. I'll be up there the weekend of the 16, hoping for good weather and good fishing

I was up there 3 years ago and if I remember right, the trail to the upper lake doesn't follow the river. If you want to follow the river, I'm sure there will be some bush-wacking.

if you can boat to in the inlet of the lower its an easy hike to the upper, once your there make your way to the east side of the upper lake and south of the outlet. Kastys and raps work well.
