Post By: pikeNcolorado      Posted: 6/1/2012 3:20:40 PM     Points: 2334
I always pass on the Dirby because of so many people fishing it, (250-300) but I think I might just go out this weekend for fun. Anyone else going to join? Here's a link with all the information. Enjoy and maybe I'll see ya out there....

PS, I'll post on the Update Page as well.

I'll be on the water with the red bayliner - see you guys out there :::: not aware of any eyes in Estes btw :)

I did however catch a nice 2 1/2 lb rainbow out there last week ::: and the browns are really kicking this year, nice size.

They've double stocked for the dirby - good luck to all!

Good times guys - my kiddos placed well - I on the other hand couldn't seem to pull out anything much bigger than my hand - although if it had been based on sheer numbers I would have won, lol - between me and another boat we pulled in 35 fish for the fry last night - great eatin!

I'll be out there again next week trying to catch the lunkers down deep ::::: woot!

I missed the derby but going up there to fish either Mary's or Lake Estes. Have never fished either one so is there a better part to fish on Estes. It's a pretty big lake and wonder which side to go in at. Thanks.

The lake was just stoked so pretty much anywhere. I would shoot for inlet first, then maybe over towards the marina where it was stocked.

As for the dirby, I had to work sat so I wasn't able to participate. Anyone hear what size fish won?

I saw it but didn't attend awards - it was a brown about 20" - maybe 2 lbs at the most, prolly more in the 1 3/4 range.

Interesting on the eyes, I'm gonna have to snag one this week on the downriggers :)

For whatever it's worth, the gillnet in 2010 turned up only 3 of them. Let us know how you did.

fsndc, there are a few in the river. However, I did the electrofishing with dow last year for the BIG T and there was not a single eye pulled up. So I'm not sure where you're getting your info about them spilling into the river. Not bashing in anyway, just curious where your getting your info.

Last spring before run off I was able to catch several and spotted many more. During runoff i heard multiple reports of fly fisherman catching them below the dam. After runoff last spring i havnt seen or caught any. Granted not the most scientific study but the two seemed connected.

Fished deep with the riggers most of the week :) - I have absolutely nothing but trout to report...and stockers at that...couple fatties but nothing to write home about.

Too much bait in the water right now....other side seems to be fishing better from what I hear.

Action earlier last month was on raps, having more luck now with spinners and spoons...

It's time to hit Boyd, carter, and the tooth :). Fish on fish on :::::>
