tuff fishing...one good bite
Post By: Daviso      Posted: 5/31/2012 9:10:30 AM     Points: 368
hit bear creek in the tube early. Fishing has been some what tuff for me, have tried lots of tricks and tactics for the walleye but can't seem to find the fish. I fished one specific spot that has some structure for the smallies and finally got bit, and it was a good one. Any tips for the saugeye at BCLP?

Did you happen to get a weight of the hog? Is that a personal best?

Great fish!

It was pushing 5lbs for sure, and yes probably the best smally I have caught in Colorado. Looked like there was a softball stuck in her stomach, I think from eating lots of big crawdads.

were you trolling or vertical jigging once you found the fish? Does this lake produce larger trophy walleye/sauger like it does the smallies?

Nice fish!
here's a few from there as well.
The saugeyes can be taken trolling or vertical jigging.
I got some on jigs and some trailing lindy rigs, and saw some folks trolling and catching them as well.

Alot of times the more simple methods catch the eyes out there such as Trolling a crawler harness. Hit the aerators and you should land a few.Was out this afternoon and landed around 5 or so biggest being around 19 inches.

Daviso that is a great catch! I am not here to tell you how to handle fish or if they should have been released or kept. But I did notice something in your post, in which I would like to give you a suggestion on or even a please do. Please wear a PFD, it can save your life! We do not want another fallen angler this season to situations that could have or should have been prevented.

Happy fishing...

I have had luck trolling a lindy rig on the bottom with crawlers - but you gotta go slow - if there is a little wind and you can drift this works well too.

Is that Bear Creak lake - I don't recognize the background - maybe shooting to the south west on hte sounth side of pelican point?

BTW - kudos on he fish!!!!
