carp help please
Post By: culinarypunk      Posted: 5/29/2012 7:42:54 PM     Points: 551
My wife love fishing for carp, river and lakes but I am no good at it. So I was wondering what bait and flies are good for them.
Thanks for the help!

Put a couple of pieces of corn on a hook until there is just enough room to set the hook. Also balled up bread seems to work

For fly rod:
backstabber carp fly, or any small light weight crayfish pattern.
Leeches or minnows in some ponds or lakes, even dry flies if they are eating on top (so I hear). Gotta land it on their dinner plate without spooking them, and then detect the strike before they spit it out.
Look for the ones that are actively feeding with their tails in the air, noses in the mud.

If you're bait fishing, see if you can get takeakidfishing to chime in here. He is the carp king!

There are multiple rigs and baits and he's tried many of them.

If you're flyfishing, hit up some of the editors in Denver and our own Flyrodn. They help organize the South Platte Carp Slam and know the flies to use, like the slider.
