Lake: Vallecito Reservoir
Need advise...1st trip to Vallecito
Post By: hunt-n-fish      Posted: 5/3/2012 1:44:38 PM     Points: 32
We take a family fishing trip each year...this year we're going to Vallecito. Never been there. We are debating if we should bring the boats or rent one? I'm coming from the Denver area...the other 5 are coming from El Paso, TX.

Any thoughts? Are there any places in Durango where we could rent a boat for 4 days (May 17 - 20)?

What about the fishing? I would love to go after Pike..are they hitting yet?

thanks!

Good to hear your coming out to my little part of paradise!
There are plenty of boat rentals at the main marina. Stan Folsom is the owner and man to talk to....From aluminum boats to big ol pontoons.
The fishing for pike should be great... i would fish rapala husky jerks or some Dynamic Lures Dynamos.... both have worked well in the early season. Rapalas should be the 14 size, and tennesse shad or blk chrome. And the dynamos should be perch or rainbow colors... get ready for the chance at a fish of a lifetime!!!!

Appreciate the info!

I have some Dynamic Lures, but no Dynamos...Need to get some!

I emailed Doc's about boat rentals.

Without giving away any specific spots...what areas (shallows, points, dropoffs, etc) should I be looking for this time of year (for Pike)? Presentation: slow...fast? Also, any crappie in the lake? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn as much as I can!

thanks again

No worries... fish shallow on the North and West banks... its a small lake so you should find them quick! I would fish slow and work from there... there are some seriously shallow islands, so be carefull.... Also... Sorry no crappie.... NAVAJO... for crappie and bluegill....

Dynamos and XXL'S and maybe the new Travado's....
