Gross Tiger Muskie!
Post By: ForeverFishing      Posted: 4/4/2012 9:51:08 PM     Points: 84
Here is one that my son caught. No measurements taken. Roughly 38" long. This one had a bad mis-matched jaw. Never seen a tiger or a pike with a jaw like this. Caught him on a custom made aluminum lure.

Nice Fish!!! The Tiger Muskie is one of the coolest looking fish in my opinion a true master predator (next to man of course)!!!

Well done. That's the second pic this year I've seen of a deformed Tiger. I think I'll email CPW the pics and see what they say. Here's the link to the 1st one...

I see it all the time... on the fish I raise.
The deformity is typically started in the hatchery. Not all of them will be that way, but a few will turn out with a "snub nose."
This type of deformity is typically caused by a vitamin or mineral deficiency.
What is interesting is that most of these fish will still survive just fine.

That is a great catch and on a homemade lure is even more rewarding!!
Great job!!

Any chance you can post a photo of the lure? Would be really interesting to see.

Wow, nice catch! I'm still hoping to hook into one of those beasts up there at Gross! When was this one caught? I presume you were fishing from the side of the dam?

Contrary to the title of your post, that's actually a PRETTY tiger musky, so I disagree. Ha, ha. Nice fish.

Stephen, here is a pick of the lure. Second pick is some UV that I have been playing with as well. The lure used was anodized gold.

Here's what the CPW said about these muskie. Keep in mind these are just his guesses without actually having the fish to check out details...

"""I cannot say for certain but I have 2 ideas.

1. Tiger muskies are an unnatural hybrid when your crossing these genetics the potential for a mutation increases.

2. Next, these fish are extremely territorial. The fish could have been attacked in the pond, hauling tank, or even in the lake when it was younger resulting in the deformity."""

Congrats on the Tiger!!! I am sure it was good shape and very active prior to hitting your lure. I caught a snub nose about 3 years ago now up in Washington State. Hammered a custom made jerk bait.

Beautiful fish regardless of the deformity. Comforting to know that these fish aren't breeders, lol.

deformity huh? I would've guessed caught when younger and messed up his jaw and it healed like that. But what the hell do I know?

Nice catch
